The Importance of Exposure Before You are Behind the Wheel

It is very important to know the rules of the road before you actually get behind the wheel. If everyone just ignored driver’s training, there would be no safe place to be on the road. It is still extremely dangerous even knowing the rules of the road because a huge number of things could go wrong, but also because you cannot control what other people do on the road. You can only control yourself.
It is important to receive driver training because you are learning how to operate your vehicle. If you don’t know the important things about your vehicle, it is going to lead to more accidents, which in turn leads to more deaths. That isn’t the only thing though. Driver training can also help you understand and get the practice when dealing with other people on the road, which can be a huge thing because as stated above, you can’t control what other people do.
Driver’s training is also important because the ultimate goal is teaching you how to be safe on the road. So many deaths have happened because people decided to not be safe and instead decided to be very reckless. Nobody wants death to be on their conscience, especially if it was something that you could avoid. Driver’s training in a lot of ways can be some of your first exposure to the real world, which is why it is so important. It can be very scary, especially because learning to drive is often viewed as one of your first real steps into adulthood and the real world.
I also really like the way that driver’s training prepares you for driving in the car with other people. You gain experience in having conversations or having at least background noise playing while you are driving. I think that is something that a lot of people don’t necessarily talk about. While there can be distractions outside on the road, the biggest distractions can be inside your own vehicle, and it doesn’t always have to be a phone or another electronic device. It can also be people. Other people in your car aren’t going to be aware or thinking about how they are being a distraction. They either aren’t going to realize, or they aren’t going to care, so getting that exposure with a trained driver in the car is very important, or at least I think anyway, in learning how to operate your vehicle in driver’s training.
A way that you can reduce accidents is to eliminate distractions. In today’s world a lot of accidents that ultimately turn deadly are because people are texting or being on social media while they are driving. If you get rid of the distractions, you will be able to focus on the road, which would then make it so that you can make better decisions and literally save lives. It isn’t phones that are a problem. Driving when highly emotional can also be a huge problem, especially with teenagers because teenagers are still learning how to healthily deal with all of these adult emotions. When you are highly emotional, your judgment and decision making skills are all heavily impaired. That means you aren’t going to make the most logical decisions and it can be like when you are driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Your brain isn’t going to be able to make those kinds of decisions the way it normally would be able to.
Road rage runs rampant in my family. It is something that has caused several accidents or just dangerous driving in general. It is something that is really scary, especially when you are in the backseat. Especially when I was younger, I wasn’t fully aware of what was going on, and it was absolutely terrifying. It was something that I vowed to myself when I started driver's training that I would do my best to not let it take over me. I think just that vow to myself has helped me not be in an accident, and I have been driving for 2 years now. I haven’t ever gotten into an accident, nor have I hit anything besides my garbage can one time when I was in a rush to get to school on time when I was running really late.
Driver Training really does save lives because it introduces you to a reality of things that your parents might have tried to shield you from. It really helps you prepare for the real world, and it helps you learn how to be safe and responsible. If you aren’t safe and responsible, you are just putting everyone else in danger.
