One of the main reasons why safe driving is necessary is because it preserves the lives of many drivers. Every year millions of people lose their lives because of road accidents. Permanent injuries and fatalities caused by reckless driving break friends, families, and communities and leave reputable damage. Safe driving significantly reduces the risk of collisions, injuries, and fatalities, making sure that drivers and passengers reach their destinations safely.
Driver education, better known as drivers ed, is a key way to help educate new drivers on what they should and should not be doing when on the road. It teaches them what each road sign means, each traffic rule, and various safe driving practices. By learning all of these rules and following them the new drivers can do their part in reducing the number of vehicular accidents. Drivers ed also teaches drivers to understand the potential risks and consequences of reckless driving or driving under the influence of substances. Comprehensive driver education programs educate learners about the dangers of speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, using mobile phones while driving, and other risky behaviors. By understanding the consequences of such actions, drivers are more likely to avoid engaging in them which could significantly contribute towards reducing the number of accidents and deaths. Learning about the negative aspects of driving can make the driver more cautious of their own driving as well as others and can also help individuals hold other drivers accountable.
It is very important to me that drivers know the rules and risks of the road because I have seen the consequences of irresponsible driving. I have been in multiple accidents, none of which were caused by my actions, but by drivers who neglected to follow the speed limit and clear road directions. I have also seen a friend of mine go to jail because of their reckless driving. Their decision to speed down a highway caused them to lose control of the vehicle and swerve into oncoming traffic. He suffered significant injuries as well as his girlfriend who was in the passenger seat. The crash unfortunately resulted in the death of an elderly couple as they were hit head-on. Because of experiences like these, I try my best to remain within the speed limit and to tell my friends to do the same because instances like these can be avoided with proper driving knowledge and self-discipline.
There are many steps that myself, and others, can do to become better and safer drivers. Practicing defensive driving can help reduce the risk of accidents occuring. By anticipating potential hazards individuals can be aware of inattentive drives and be ready to act if a threatening situation arises. Another my peers and myself could implement better is avoiding distractions. By keeping focus on the road and avoiding tasks such as texting, talking on the phone, eating, or even using GPS, drivers can be more aware of their surroundings. Another key factor for safe driving, that many can forget or do not have the means to do, is to maintain the vehicle. It is important to regularly inspect and maintain a car's brakes, tires, windshield wipers, and other important car parts. By keeping them working properly and knowing the status of your car's parts, things such as brake failure accidents or the car breaking down because of faulty transmission can be avoided.
Safe driving is an ethical responsibility that every individual must uphold. By executing safe driving society can create an environment where drivers can travel without fear, knowing that there are fewer reckless drivers. It is important to keep in mind that safe driving is not only for personal convenience but also for ensuring the lives of those around are not in danger. The importance of safe driving cannot be overstated, as it preserves lives, protects innocent road users, reduces financial burdens, preserves the environment, and sets a positive example for others.
