The Importance of Safe Driving

When I was working towards getting a driver's license and even now, I have been trying my best to be a good driver. With how many accidents that are caused due to reckless driving each year, I have grown more passionate about helping inform others about the great importance of learning and practicing safe driving. Safe driving includes more than just knowing how to drive well and follow the laws, it also includes not drinking and driving, as well as not getting distracted by phones or other things. Increasing or reminding the public of safe driving practices is a very important thing. By following these simple guidelines, drivers can make the roads safer for everyone. Throughout the class and during the conference I learned of multiple cases where tragedy stuck because someone wasn’t paying attention, practicing safe driving practices, or because they were driving while under the influence.
The first major rules of driving safely are obeying traffic laws, such as speed limits, stop signs, and traffic signals. It is also very important to signal when changing lanes. I know that when I have been driving, I am either angry or stressed because someone randomly changed lanes without signaling first. Another really important rule that should be followed is to check your blindspots. While some people do this, I have noticed that many do not. This can lead to multiple issues because they don’t check to see if someone is there. There are many accidents that have occurred when someone is driving and they decide to change lanes without checking their blind spots. It can also cause problems when someone is backing up and doesn't look to see if someone is there.
One time when I was in the car with a couple of my friends and one of my friends' moms, we were driving down a fairly busy road. Nothing abnormal was going on and we were just having a good time. We were stopped at a light, when suddenly there was a loud crash. We all jumped and looked over. A car had run a red light and was speeding. This caused it to go out of control and crash into the grass that was on the side of the intersection. This experience scared all of my friends and myself, and this helped enforce the idea of being a safe driver in all of us. I didn’t want to end up getting in a crash because of some silly or dumb mistake that I might have made. In order to do this I tried to learn the most from all of my classes and do my best to be a good driver.
A good thing to always do no matter what is to always drive sober. There have been so many accidents that have been a result of driving while under the influence. These stories are heartbreaking, as even one poor decision can lead to devastating consequences. If someone has been drinking it isn’t too hard to call someone they trust or to even just get an uber. This helps guarantee more safety on the road than if they were to drive home themselves. One way to help others learn more about being a better driver would be to start practicing it yourself. By doing this, you could be a great role model that will help others understand and see the benefits of truly practicing how to drive safely. By helping to inform others of the dangers of being unsafe or distracted while driving while doing this yourself, you will be contributing greatly to helping reduce the amount of accidents that occur each year.
