When I was sixteen, I experienced a harrowing incident that forever changed my perspective on driving. One evening, I was speeding down a gravel road at around 55 mph. As I caught loose gravel, I lost control of the car, which veered off the road and crashed into a telephone pole, snapping it in half and totaling my vehicle. In that moment, I genuinely thought I was about to die. The event unfolded rapidly yet felt incredibly slow, and I can vividly remember all of the little details of the event.

I went to the hospital and got away with a broken hand, and 14 stitches in my eyebrow, however, it could have been much worse.This accident was a wake-up call. It showed me the unpredictability of driving and the thin line between life and death on the road. My reckless decision to speed on an unsafe surface could have ended my life or caused more severe injury. This experience instilled in me a profound appreciation for the importance of safe driving practices and the value of life.
Driver education is incredibly important in cultivating a generation of informed and cautious drivers.
