When driving, do you question your purpose in why you do it? When people think of monsters, they might think of boogeyman, brain-hungry zombies or even vampires, but the real monsters are the ones behind the wheel not aware of what they are doing and how they are causing harm to others! Being behind the wheel is no joke especially when others are around you. In the United States about four people are killed/injured in an accident everyday. With that being said everyday Americans need to learn and know how to drive safely 24/7. In this essay I will be telling you how we can decrease the death rates and become a better driver together!
The first thing people do that is dangerous and can cause many accidents; is being on their phone while driving, either it's just a phone call, putting on the GPS, or texting a quick text to whomever! Being on the phone while driving can be a big distraction along with other things. Phones have caused many accidents; due to that being the case over 400 deaths from texting and driving happen every year in the United States. For example, to reduce the number of deaths caused by texting, we can put our phones on Do Not Disturb or even on airplane mode, in the possible event of you getting easily distracted by the notifications that pop up on your phone. Doing this to your phone will help you and others focus more on the road and reduce accidents! In addition, another reason for the higher death rate is drinking and driving. I am aware of this reasoning because it has caused many innocent lives in my area.
Furthermore, being in car accidents are quite scary, you never know the outcome of being in one and just have to hope for the best. Car accidents are more likely to happen everyday especially with teens; teens are more common due to the connections they have with their phones. To give an instance of this statement, in the year 2024 of January, an accident had happened that caused us two beautiful lives due to being distracted. The two teenagers came to high school with me being sixteen and seventeen years old and all because they got distracted. They had lost their lives, when they had much more to live! Therefore, many may think that we are over dramatic or overdoing it when we say “all it takes is one second, and your life could be gone in a blink of an eye”. Do not take it as a joke or your parents being overprotective. If you would like to live your life to the fullest, till god says it is your time, do not cut your life short all because you could not leave your phone alone for a few minutes.
In the final words that I have to mention, another thing is being well educated about being on the road! Being on the road is mistaken for being “not difficult”, “safe”, “simple” and etc; many people do not take their time to educate themselves about being on the road, they just get up and go. Not being educated can harm you and others and you might not think so, but it most definitely will; Also it is a common misconception that everyone has a right to drive. But in reality, operating a vehicle is a serious responsibility; it's a privilege not a right. Do not let that privilege be taken away from you.
To sum up everything that has been stated so far some people may argue with the distractions that are actually the main cause of the accidents being made. Distractions are the main reason people lose loved ones and the loved ones being lost are due to the stupidity of others not being aware of the beautiful lives they are taking and the hurt they leave people in for what to be many years because grief of a loved one is terrible and wouldn't want anyone to go through that horrible pain. So take this into consideration and be aware of what the responsibility it is to be a driver. Clearly, this shows that when driving you have to be alert of the things and people around you, and also be responsible if you are capable of being behind the wheel at that very moment. You don’t want your driving to be the reason that you or someone else does not go home.
