Time For Change
Having
a license is a privilege, a privilege that comes with a
responsibility that we all have to uphold. Negligence on the road can
end fatally. Imagine ending and ruining the lives of innocent people
and their families, people just like you, because of your
recklessness, imagine losing years of your life in a prison cell,
branded as a killer, and hated by everyone who knows your name, do
you want to live with that? I imagine not. Some of the main causes of
car accidents include breaking the speed limit, drunk driving, and
distracted driving. When driving, you need to develop a correct
attitude about driving, treat it as not just a means of
transportation, but also as a privilege, so commit yourself to
practicing a responsible attitude while driving, hold the knowledge
you learned closely, it may save a life.
The
skills taught to you during your drivers ed are invaluable, as
it insures not only the safety of others, but yours as well,
something as simple as maintaining a safe following distance behind
every vehicle may save you from an accident. Just last year, a friend
of mine named Rubi, along with her family, were in a terrible car
accident caused by a drunk driver, by the grace of God, all of them
survived, but Rubi had to have multiple surgeries to fix her
collarbone, she is still traumatized by the incident, and falls into
several episodes of depression, she's one of the kindest people I
have ever met, and she doesn't deserve to go through this because of
someone's carelessness. People need to educate themselves as a
community and learn when your hands are on that wheel, your attention
should be on the road and the road alone, do not bother answering a
text or phone call, it can wait, your loved ones should understand
you are driving, and it's no secret how notorious deaths connected to
these devices are, it does not matter if you think it will just take
a moment, that moment may cost you your life. Always adjust your
mirrors so that you can prevent dangerous blind spots. Under no
circumstances should any alcohol or drugs be in your system with
prior knowledge that you are going to be driving afterwards,
regardless if you are at a party, you need to remember you still have
a responsibility to drive safe not just for your own sake but for
your passengers or other drivers as well.
I
myself struggle with anxiety issues, and go into periods of
uncontrollable shaking, steps I take to be an efficient driver not
only include everything I have mentioned above, but also going to
therapy to get a grip on myself, as I cannot imagine causing so much
pain to others. I can help others by discussing this topic with them,
and have them understand the reality of this topic. Life is precious,
and it's our duty, our responsibility, as people to preserve it at
all costs.
