From the moment a person enters
the driver’s seat, their life could completely change in a matter
of two seconds, especially with the fast pace that the current world
lives in. Yet, due to this fast pace, urbanization has been growing
even quicker over the course of the last twenty years. With this,
comes a bigger population and more automobiles on the highway
systems. Here, the importance of drivers ed comes into play.
With the amount of cars on the road and lack of drivers ed, it
is obvious that the number of accidents has increased. But, if there
were to be more individuals placing an importance on safe driving,
this fatality rate that exists could potentially decrease by even
thousands. This can reach a larger scale by having all individuals,
especially teen drivers, take both an online course and an in-person
course. Why both? It is quite common that individuals who take online
courses will not pay as much attention to their classes, especially
if it is a requirement for graduation. By being placed into an actual
in-life course, there will be a significant increase in the amount of
safe drivers all over the United States because a new perspective is
placed onto the idea of student driving. In addition, once older
generations hit a certain age, there should be regular check-ups to
see if they are eligible to keep on driving because of the idea that
young inexperienced drivers as well as older individuals are the ones
who are causing the majority of the car accidents seen.

Personally, I have not been in an
accident as a passenger or a driver but I have sadly seen the results
of reckless driving. One of these is the simple example of the common
mistake that almost everyone does while driving. The act of texting
and driving seems more like an epidemic that affects many on a daily
basis. This distraction has caused many to become dangerously hurt or
even dead.  Just because of this small distraction on the road,
many will never be able to see that loved one ever again. As a way to
combat this, I have taken the charge to already set my phone onto the
“Do Not Disturb” feature that is activated once a car begins to
move. Yes, I may not necessarily have a license yet but it already
sets a common pattern to not check your phone while driving. In
addition, the driver cannot be distracted by the sounds of another
cellular device. When it comes to other teenagers, I also want to
emphasize how important it is to sit calmly with casual conversation
in order for the driver to maintain their focus. Yes, it may be fun
to blast a tune with friends but it is always more important to
arrive to the location safely. Not only is the driver’s life
depending on it, but so is the lives of the other passengers as well
as the lives of others on the road.
