Many people drive
on the road every day. Many of them also drive carelessly. One key
way to reduce this is to help educate drivers on the dangers. Provide
them with real statistics, maybe even exposure to careless driving
incidents, and it will show them what they could end up being a part
of. Then, hopefully they will drive more carefully and be more
mindful of others’ wellbeing. This is a large part of reducing
deaths due to car accidents, since many collisions could likely be
prevented.
With
technology constantly being integrated into our lives and becoming a
bigger part of our everyday lives, there needs to be improvement with
on-road safety to accompany it. Encouraging drivers to put down their
phone while driving is a big part of decreasing accidents. Distracted
driving can cause accidents in a matter of seconds. Many people have
the mindset that sending one text won’t cause any harm, since it’s
such a quick action. However, in those few seconds, a car can pull
out, a light can change, or a car in front of the driver can break.
The combination of distracted driving and the quick situational
change can cause an accident. In addition to reducing distractions
while driving, drivers should become more aware and mindful when
behind the wheel. Pay attention to lights, other cars, and look out
for pedestrians.

I’ve been part of
a few accidents, but thankfully, not ones while I’ve been behind a
wheel. They were long ago, but I remember the situation and how it
resulted from others carelessness. If they were paying more
attention, it never would have happened.

Many
of my friends use their phone while driving. I never think much of
it, because it’s something that is so common. After reviewing these
statistics and reflecting on how dangerous it is, I’ll make an
effort to speak up and point out how dangerous it could be to my
friends. This is a step I can take to help others stay safe, and I
can also practice this by putting my phone away while I drive.
