Driver education can decrease death rates in motor vehicle accidents. I took driver education right before freshman year. It was a learning experience that I will always know and remember. My teacher not only taught me how to drive, but he also taught me what to look for and prevent accidents, as well as how to keep myself and others safer while behind the wheel. One way driver education is important is that when you are driving (most of the time) the passenger, or teacher, will have a break so they can help if something were to really happen while you are still getting the hang of it. My teacher taught me how to stop at the right time and where to stop so I was not too close or driving too close to the vehicle in front of me to where I could potentially wreck. He also taught me how to turn to where I would not go into oncoming traffic and wreck head on. My teacher taught me the basic, simple, and extremely easy things to help avoid a collision. Not only did my teacher instruct me on driving, but there are ways that I myself can be a safer driver. They are very simple, you can be aware and just look out for yourself, where you are driving, and other people driving. There is also another way that I am able to be a safer driver, and that way is holding other people accountable when you are the passenger. By doing this you can help them from getting distracted and also being a second pair of eyes for them. So, there are so many ways that you can be a safe driver, and that driver education can help you become a safe driver as well.
Driver education can not prevent all collisions, but there is something more that could help limit it. The police have a huge part in traffic stops or collisions. Therefore when you get pulled over for speeding, or reckless driving, or even just a simple not stopping at a stop sign. Police officers give people warnings. Verbal warnings do not even go on your record, nor do you have to pay for them, it is basically like it did not even happen. People blow it off because they have no right punishment for it, they drive off and continue to do the same thing because nobody knows about the warning and they think they will get out of the next one, and usually they do. Therefore, a way that will benefit the minimalizing crashes is to always give people traffic tickets. If you can break the rule, you can pay and have a consequence for the rule that you broke. By doing this people will not want to have to pay for every ticket that they get. So, then it will minimize the amount of speeding accidents, reckless driving accidents, and just simply blowing through a stop sign accident. Ticket giving will be an accident prevention key.
From experience I know people who have gotten in crashes, but I as well have gotten in a car crash. When I was about 8 years old my mom had t-boned someone when making a turn on a main road. She did not see the people because the sun was right in her eyes, so she just went. I was so scared because I did not know what was happening, but this crash was not really preventable and it really was not anyone's fault. I also have another story of a crash which is my cousin. While my cousin was driving his motorcycle on a military base someone had run a stop sign and plowed into him. He shattered his wrist and could not walk. Now, he is unable to be in the army and continue fighting. This is a huge problem because people should never just run through stop signs. If people were more conscious and punished things like this would not happen. My cousin was lucky because he had a helmet on, but also he could have died. Which would have been another death to add to the charts.
Driver education is important to decreasing deaths from car accidents, but driving also comes with responsibility. People should be able to be trusted behind the wheel, but unfortunately many of us drive scared behind the wheel because a lot of people lack awareness. If people were aware or responsible they would not have to get a ticket and the roads would be safer. If everyone can just agree on knowing you need to be aware and take driver education to be taught the correct way, children, families, innocent lives, and everyone would be safer and not in danger of dying in a motor vehicle accident.
