a student, we learned how to drive mostly at age of sixteen. There
are many reasons for that, and one primarily parents can’t make
time to pick their kid up or wait for the bus to come to pick us up.
When we start learning to drive, we get the new feelings of tension
and tightness when a car passes us and a car exerts the gas pedal to
go over the speed limit. I think driving schools should provide a
beneficial program to make awareness about deaths in car accidents.
One
of the things that we could do is to reduce the number of deaths
related to driving, and could go by the speed limit. Always remember
to wear a seatbelt when you are in a vehicle. According to
Pennsylvania Seat Belt Safety Statistics wearing a seat belt reduces
the chance of deaths in a crash by about 78.7% to 89.6%; a drastic
change in three years. I’ve seen people not putting their safety
belts on because it bothers the passengers and drivers, but they are
not thinking about the consequence that it may bring them. Another
step is to look at your mirrors at least more than three times to
change a lane, but most people won’t look at the mirrors. We have
signs on the bottom of the mirrors; it says “Objects in the mirror
are closer than they appear.”
Not
so long ago, my whole family was in a car accident because it was a
right turn and also cars were passing really fast. The black - green
Chevy car hit the back of our car, and she was a young adult driving
probably had her mobile device on her hand. There were no physical
injuries on either side, but it did startle my family and I. It made
me realize that at any moment, you could end your life if you are not
a careful driver.
Something
that people should work on is not being on your cell phone while
driving if you are texting and you are about to start to drive, you
could simply say, “I’m about to drive, I’ll call or text you
back later.” This generation is used to hearing notification and
immediately looking at their phones, but if you silence your phone
and text to your friends that you will be driving. There won’t be
any noise when you are driving; and if you touch your phone, you will
not cause an accident.
It’s
important educating people about driving safety matters. When driving
fast, we tend to use a cell phone while driving, going over the speed
limit, not paying attention to the signs, and not looking at the
mirrors. We could end a life including ours when we are not careful.
Look at the signs and take it seriously. Don’t wait for an accident
to happen to you because you don’t know if you will make it alive.
Always drive safely.
