This month I had my very first real accident on the road. I was in a rush for work at my retail job. Where I live there are a lot of big trucks and traffic because of the cassino nearby. I also have to use the county roads to get to my work through the back part of my town. So, as I was driving I saw there were three cars in front of me. Two commuter trucks and one large white truck. When we were driving along I could see the commuter tracks were driving very peculiar. They kept randomly speeding up and swerving even though it was not windy, and it was a long straight country road. We pass the cassino, and I am halfway to my work going about 30 miles per hour. Then we reached the place where my accident happened. Before my turn for the road to my work there is a railroad track. The sides are covered in hedges and trees so you must be especially careful. The commuter cars were now slower, and the white truck crossed with no worries. As my tires went over the first part of the rail I heard something loud. I couldn’t explain the sound, so I turned up at the railroad fearing it was a train. This is where my mistake happened. I have the bad habit of not putting enough room between me and the next car in front of me. When my head was turned the commuter car abruptly stopped. The white truck stopped quickly, and I didn’t see it in time, so we collided. My front hit the back of his truck and it made me jolt my whole body. I saw my hood bend all the way up obstructing my view and heard my car crunch. I felt all my thoughts blur as we finally stopped. The next thing I did was pull over with the truck and got out. My legs were like noodles getting out of my car and talking with the man from the truck. The man got out and he was a very kind man. He made sure that I was okay and was very calm. I looked for the damage to the cars. His truck was absolutely fine because his truck was raised with tall tires. My car on the other hand had a huge puncture whole. The truck was equipped with the hitch and when we collided it slit through the front of my car. My headlight popped out and the grill was busted. We exchanged numbers and I got in my car. I called my workplace and told them I was going to be late. I remember a feeling like all of my organs were in the bottom of my stomach. There was a gas station that was only a little while up the road, so I decided to drive to it to truly inspect the damage. On the way I called both my parent’s phone numbers yet neither picked them up. I finally called the home phone and then my father answered. I frantically told him what happened. He said that him and mom are on their way. I parked at the gas station and got out to look at the damage. I was grateful that nothing was leaking, but my car sure took a beating. It took a couple minutes, but my parents finally arrived. When they inspected my car I noticed that they weren’t angry, just very exhausted and disappointed. My father instructed me to buy some duct tape from the store part of the station. When I went to get some my father opened the hood and inspected the damage on the inside. I came back and he told me that most of the inside machinery was okay but the latch for the hood was broken and the headlights clip was snapped. We duct tapped it the best we could, and I drove into work with a smashed front.
The reason this paper is named “ you” is because that is what my mother says I need to work on. She says this because I have been known to ride on people when driving. My mother says that there should be the length of two cars between you and your fellow drivers in the event that you need the time to do a driving maneuver that could stop an accident. That mixed with my distracted driving of my surrounding plus my rushed driving is what caused my accident. In conclusion you should have your eyes on the road and leave two cars between you when driving.
