Being a safe driver is not difficult but it’s not easy either. I recently got my license here in Vegas and I would like to consider myself as a perfect driver but there is no such thing. Driving is not like math, you can’t study an hour before the test and expect to pass. It’s not something that you will just be good at because, well, its driving! I have lived here in the States technically my whole life but my parents on the other hand were both born and raised in Iran. Me getting my license has always been a sensitive topic here in my family because my parents have lost lots of friends and family because of unsafe driving. Growing up, my parents have told me many stories of their friends and family and the mistakes they have made while driving, I guess so that I would be more aware while driving and I'm truly lucky to have some amazing caring parents. In Iran there isn't much driving laws actually almost close to none, I’m truly blessed to have the chance to grow up here in the U.S away from the many driving dangers back in Iran. Drivers ed is a huge importance in this day and age, if you ask me every driver should be required to take a drivers ed class before starting to drive. Drivers ed really gives drivers the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for vehicle safety. Some steps that we could take to move toward a much safer driving environment and not just in the States but in the whole world could be requiring every highschool student to take a drivers ed course and pass it in order to drive. The course will go through every driving hazards such as distracted driving, driving under the influence and much more so that the next generation of drivers would be much more aware of the dangers. This hits too close to home because a little over a year ago we lost three amazing souls at my school because of a car accident and it breaks my heart even thinking about it. America has good traffic laws, better than most countries out there but that does not mean that we are much safer out on the streets. Nearly 40,000 Americans die each year due to car accidents, and 1.3 million worldwide each year. Here are some steps I will do to be a better and safer driver for me and to help others become safer on the road. I promise to make sure every time I get behind the wheel that I will be in a good driving attitude and not rushed or angry because sometimes we get in a heated argument before we get behind the wheel and that's a terrible attitude to be in while driving. I will adjust my driving accordingly for example if the speed limit is 35mph I continue to go 35mph but speed limits are just a maximum and not a target, it’s alright to go slower than the speed limit. With all this said not all vehicle related fatalities are the drivers fault. Just 4 years ago a family friend lost her daughter because of a limousine accident. She was out with her friends partying and they rented a limousine for the night, they open up the sunroof of the limo and the girls thought it would be a good idea to stand up and poke their heads out the limousine and then suddenly the driver had to slam on the brakes because someone cut him off and in the blink of an eye she was thrown out the vehicle, what happened was tragic but it proves that you always need to make smart decisions when driving a vehicle or even sitting as a passenger. Let’s start now in helping make the streets of earth a safer place.
