Driving is a big responsibility that should not be taken lightly. Every day, people die, due to reckless driving and car accidents. There are steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. These steps involve vehicle owners ensuring their vehicles are in good condition, anticipating the actions of others, protecting yourself and others and being in a good mind state.
One of the first steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving would be to always make sure your vehicle is in good condition. Your tires, brakes, and windows should be in top condition before and while driving. The better condition your vehicle is in, the more control you will have while driving. A vehicle will remain in good condition when it is maintained on a regular schedule.
Another step to reduce the number of deaths while driving would be to always anticipate the actions of others while driving. It is always said that “good drivers, drive defensively.” Drivers who not only act on their behalf, but also on the behalf of others can immediately identify things that help them anticipate how other drivers will act or react. Being attentive and learning to search for clues while driving will assist in reaction time.
Protecting yourself and others while driving is also a step to reduce the number of deaths while driving. Every vehicle is built with both driver and passenger seatbelts. It is the law to wear seatbelts because it saves lives from death and serious injuries in case of an unavoidable accident. Though seatbelts can be uncomfortable, the concept of restraint in a moving, uncontrolled vehicle has saved many lives.
Driving should always be done while you are in a good mind state. A driver’s physical and mental condition play an important role in their ability. You should always be alert and clear minded because driving needs your full attention. If there are things that you know may distract you from concentrating on driving, you should not be driving.
In conclusion, though driving is a big responsibility, it is a privilege, not a right. In order to obtain the license to drive you must make a conscious effort to develop driving skills. These skills should continue to develop and all laws and rules must be followed. The more you take driving seriously and understand your responsibility, the easier it will be to follow these steps that will reduce the number of deaths related to driving.
