Okay so let's be honest, nowadays driving doesn't seem like a huge responsibility it mostly seems like something you just do to get places, but it isn’t only that, it takes a lot of responsibility.  Most people, if not everyone, who has driven a car, knows that when driving you got to be very careful and be on the lookout for red lights, other cars, stop signs, pedestrians, and many more things. They also probably know that not paying attention for even a fraction of a second can cause them very big problems if not death. Those distractions can be caused by phones, passengers, GPS, or simply just zoning out or looking away from the road. Most people also know that, but they still don’t take action. So, the way to get people from getting car accidents is by motivating them and encouraging them into taking action. If drivers know what they have to do but they don’t do it then it’s useless. It is proven that motivation is a good way to get people to do things in a way they will enjoy. I’ve seen many insurance companies give low prices or rewards to drivers who don’t have accidents and in my opinion that might be the start of the right way to decrease car accidents. 
Not only the driver is responsible for not crashing also the passengers can play an important role in decreasing car crashes. When a passenger gives the driver good, calm conditions for the drive to stay focus the driver will be more efficient than if the passenger is giving the driver uncomfortable bad conditions. Crashing isn’t always the driver’s or the passenger’s fault. doing good maintenance for the car is important because if the car doesn’t work well then you can lose control of it and crash.
There are also great new inventions that help drivers avoid car accidents like blind-spot monitoring which uses monitors to warn the driver when there is something in the blind spot, lane departure warning which helps when you are going to change lines or you are accidentally going over the line and you missed a vehicle in the other line and smart cruise control which also use monitors to see if you are going to hit something in the front or back. Some cars stop automatically when those sensors go off.
