Drivers ed is very important for every single person on
and off the road. The importance of drivers ed in reducing the
number of deaths as a result of driving is to teach the new drivers
all rules on the road to keep not only them safe but also the
pedestrians around them safe. Like they say, cars are killing
machines and the people who drive them need to know all the rules of
driving. There are many steps that can be taken to reduce the number
of deaths related to driving. One, is texting and driving, in fact
just being a distracted driver all around. Eat before you leave, put
your phone down, don’t listen to the radio too loud, and get ready
before you start driving. If necessary, pull over when it is safe to
do what you need too. Being distracted could lead to many things,
running red lights, not seeing a fire truck or ambulance that needs
to get by, hitting another car or even a pedestrian. Next, never
drive recklessly. Always remember how many living people you are
around. Don’t speed, don’t drive like you are on a race track.
Driving on the roads is not meant to be a fun thing. It is a resource
that we should not take advantage of. Finally, ask yourself if you
are in the right mind set to drive every single time you turn your
car on. If you are upset, mad, have had a drink or two, remember to
ask yourself if it is the right choice to endanger yourself and
everyone else. Remember it is okay to ask for help or someone else to
drive you. You should never be ashamed of that, in fact be proud, you
just saved your life and maybe someone else’s.


When
I was in fifth grade, my step mom, sister, and I were in a pretty
scary car wreck. We were on a county road when a truck didn’t stop
at his stop sign. He pulled out right in front of us. We spun around
and hit a telephone pole. My step mom was brought to the hospital for
serious back pain and my sister and I had concussions with some cuts
and bruises. It could’ve been a lot worse. The firefighters said
that if my sister didn’t have her seatbelt she would have flown
right through the windshield and died. To this day, I remember every
second of it. It was horrifying. Every single person who drives can
make steps to become a better and safer driver. Putting my phone in
the back, listening to radios that don’t have me singing or wanting
to dance, eating when I’m not driving, and no matter how late I
will be, always follow the law. Remember you are not the only living
thing on the road and one quick look away could cause some major
damage. There is no such thing as a car accident because every single
accident can be avoided.
