The purpose of drivers ed is to prepare incoming drivers for the seriousness of being behind the wheel. If new drivers learn ahead of time what not to do when in the car and understand the steps to be a cautious driver, the death rates would most likely be reduced. I believe the main way to ensure safer driving to lower the number of deaths, would be to make sure when one is driving, they do not have their phone near them, so then they will not be tempted to look at it if they receive a notification. Even one quick glance at the phone could cause a crash, ultimately resulting in death. I have had an experience being in a car accident not too long ago. As I was about to merge on the freeway, all of a sudden my car rocked forward and I jolted forward in my seat. I immediately pulled over and waited to make sure no cars were coming when I exited my car. I was so scared because I had never been in an accident before. I exchanged information with the woman that hit: her name, insurance, license plate, name, and license photo. Even though there was hardly any damage to me or my car, I was still so anxious to drive again. If it weren’t for taking drivers ed before I got my license, I would not have known what to do in that situation. From my personal experience, drivers ed has been very useful in knowing what to do in a situation like the one I encountered and many more. Steps that I can take in order to be a safer driver would be to play my music quieter to make sure I'm more focused on the road and everything around me.
