You may wonder why crashes usually happen and Intersections and parking lots are most common when it comes to car crashes. In the United States, other common deaths are from driving under the influence and distracted driving, such as cellphone while driving, speeding, reckless driving, especially not wearing a seatbelt. Around 3,000 Americans die every year and about 400,000 people are not paying attention while driving. As well as aggressive driving, 378 crashes per year and intoxicated, causing 582 accidents, leading to mostly death per year. In addition, Teenagers and older adults (65+) are the highest-risk group for all types of car crashes because of what I stated before, recklessness and carelessness. Specifically for drivers, it is over-speeding, violation of rules, failure to understand signs or care for them and mostly intoxication, such as alcohol. Accidents can also occur from pedestrians, carelessness, crossing at wrong places and most of all, jaywalkers.
Why is Driver’s Education Important?
Driver’s education provides people with a comprehensive understanding of traffic laws, road safety and defensive driving techniques. How would you be able to be safe on the road if you are unaware of the rules and regulations? Knowing the rules and regulations on what goes on in the world will reduce the number of deaths from driving. There are comprehensive rules and regulations to what should happen before entering, or being on the road. For example, wearing a seatbelt, knowing the basics of stop signs or staying in your right lane to prevent car crashes, most importantly death. Knowing these would show that you are well aware and prepared on what could go on while on the road. There are even tests, such as the permit drivers license test which tests if you know signs, speed limits and regulations of the road for safety purposes or when you start to learn the road.
When driving on the road, simple steps could be wearing a seatbelt, mostly for students that are on that route of learning, including taking time in a parking lot and preparing yourself with what will come while being on the road. Follow the road precautions and be safe while driving, and that includes paying attention to what is in front of you, next to you and around you. Secondly when driving on the road, you must obey the laws and follow the rules that are given, such as speed limits, stop signs and turning signals, which makes the driver behind or around aware of what you are doing in advance. Driving under the influence and other unsafe activity causes plenty of crashes in the United States which is why paying attention while driving is important.
You could take other steps, such as keeping a safe distance which can prevent car crashes because a lot of the crashes happen because of lack of safe distancing but also, making sure your mirrors are moved to a point where you are aware of your surroundings. How would you be able to drive on a road without knowing these rules and regulations safely? There are many sources out there that provide the educational purposes that are needed for driving, such as the permit testing, the studying book, or even research, we have those resources so why not be safe and use them? Follow all the rules of the road and that will decrease the death rates.
As with my time on the road with family members, I have never experienced a car accident upclose because my parents always make sure that we follow those rules, such as seatbelts, sitting down while the car is moving and them as drivers keeping their eyes on the road. What keeps us safe is that we follow the rules and regulations of the road, stop signs, turning signals, seatbelts and focus on the surroundings. Those are basic rules of the road that you need to follow in order to stay safe. A lot of other car crashes with other family members that I have heard about were either from driving under the influence or speeding on the road, above the speed limit that is given. Common basic activities would be not wearing a seatbelt while driving but my family abides by the rules of the road for our safety and their own and also, because of how common it is for car crashes to occur, especially on highways.
When it comes to being a better and safer driver, keep your eyes on the road, use your turning signals in advance to prevent crashes and make sure you are driving at the speed limit. As for myself, wearing a seatbelt is useful as well as keeping my vision open and my eyes alert for any upcoming actions, such as turning lanes, crossing over or entering a highway. The main focus is using your eyes on the road, keeping yourself alert, mirrors open where you can see every angle, specifically the back of your car which is helpful for coming to stops and switching lanes. While on the road, wear your seatbelt, keep yourself alert, never drive under the influence and drive within the speed limit.
