Distracted driving is a major problem that has affected a large number of people in our society for many decades. Typical driving has resulted in a high number of deaths, to be precise 38,000 per year in the United States. Driving education helps individuals develop essential skills, knowledge, and responsible behaviors while being on the road. Many are only educated of the basic do’s and don'ts for operating a motor vehicle, along with the well known laws of the road, such as: driving the speed limit, making a complete stop at stop signs, and wearing a seatbelt. Nevertheless, the importance of driver education is more or less for the targeted young beginner drivers. The importance of reducing the number of deaths when it comes to driving must start with the younger audience. It is recognized that the youth are at higher risk of driving incidents, especially at the age of 16, seeing that teenagers are easily influenced, easily distracted and more carefree than the elder generation, although many in that peer group are just as irresponsible as the youth. Which is thereby the reason many parents have a hard time grasping the idea of their teeagers going into the world on their own. They are more aware that there are irresponsible drivers who do not consider other individuals when driving on the road. Most car accidents are due to other drivers not being alert of the areas around them.
The steps required to reduce the number of deaths is to teach the uneducated and prevent substandard behavior by raising awareness, one idea is to organize workshops or events presented at high schools. Survivors and families affected by inconsiderate driving can share personal stories along with lessons learned from their circumstances. This can create a powerful impact and make young drivers realize the real life consequences of not taking the road seriously. However, past occasions presenting traumatic topics such as this to young adults emotionally moves and frightens a sizable amount of them more than doing its job to raise awareness. Causing many to be fearful of driving and becoming independent on the road. Fearing the road is more dangerous than a distracted or thoughtless driver itself. It is up to standard to be cautious while driving, yet a driver should equally be comfortable and be confident in themselves to have control of the vehicle. If you do not have trust in yourself to drive safely, you should not be behind the wheel. To solve this issue, in addition to sharing personal stories the event will also be presenting interactive activities, discussions and presentations of those who make a living from driving, how driving has changed their lives for the better or even storytelling of exciting past experiences that made an impact. Additionally, hands-on social media campaigning can help spread the message to a wider audience outside of young adults.
Reckless driving has not affected me personally, although noticing others' affected by this has left an imprint on my view of the road. I have observed friends and family members being irresponsible while operating behind the wheel, including: speeding, running red lights, driving under the influence and so much more. All of those examples could have escalated into a driving incident ending like many others. On account of the fact that I am a beginner driver, the most I have done in those past situations was wear my seatbelt, rule one of drivers education, yet I could have done more to decrease the chances of experiencing a collision. The steps I am prepared to take to be a better and safer driver, as well as help others become safer on the road, is to be aware of my surroundings and inform others on the safety and dangers of driving.
Ultimately, the goal is to educate drivers about the risks of reckless driving and empower them to make responsible choices behind the wheel. By creating a strong awareness campaign and fostering a sense of responsibility, many can work together to prevent irresponsible driving and make the road safer for everyone. In hopes to improve the education of those who are disclosed and relieving the pressure of being a beginner driver. It’s a point in everyone's life to experience being behind the wheel for the first time. Everyone deserves a chance of having an exciting experience, but to keep in mind that driving is a privilege. Safety is the main priority of having this type of responsibility, don’t put yourself at risk by making an irresponsible choice behind the wheel.
