46,000 people die from car accidents every year in the US. The US is completely built around roads with over 200 million licensed drivers. Precautions need to be taken seriously when it comes to death, let alone death by driving. Every single precaution that we learn about in school, driver's ed. classes, and practicing for the permit test needs to be taken seriously. The cost of death greatly outweighs the small amount of time that it takes to learn driver's education. Society needs to stop expecting young drivers to just learn after they get their licenses. It is important to develop a solid foundation before a legal license is given.

There are plenty of families that do not have a safe car to drive in. This can cause the learner to not be able to adapt to other vehicles. The unreliability of the car can cause more accidents if it suddenly breaks down or if modern safety features are not implemented, making the vehicle not up to date with safety standards and regulations. For example, backup cameras, airbags, and warning signals.

There are multiple ways to reduce these deaths. Schools should require a driver's education course if students desire to obtain their license. In addition, we should not rely on the individual's parents or quick driver practice courses. More extensive teachings will allow students to develop good habits over a longer period, resulting in habits that are long-lasting throughout their lives.

Relying on the learner's parents can be dangerous if the parents are unsafe drivers. Dangerous tendencies will be passed down to the learner. Humans will repeat what their parents do so if they are unsafe the learner will develop similar tendencies. To solve this, more authorities and professionals teach a student to drive so there is a better chance they will adopt the teacher's good driving skills.

I have been in a car accident with my friend's dad driving. No one was severely injured but her dad got a concussion. It was the other driver's fault they didn't realize our driver was turning and collided with him. The drivers were inexperienced and if they were to have been more cautious then the accident could have been avoided. If they were to have more learning experience they could've learned from their mistakes early on to prevent any accidents. If they would've been placed into a class in school it probably would've helped a small mistake like this one to be prevented.

One of my closest friends got her car totaled in an accident that could've been prevented by either driver. A reckless driver was driving double the speed limit and she misjudged the speed they were going when she was pulling out onto the road they were driving on. She got into a T-bone collision and her car was totaled. If my friend looked for a little longer she could've seen that the car was going too fast for her to enter into the intersection. In addition, the other driver should have not been going twice the speed limit. To this day my friend has great anxiety when she drives that it makes her driving even worse, unfortunately. This situation shows the long-lasting effect a car accident can have on a person, physically or mentally.

A close family friend got into, what I know as, the worst car accident I have ever known someone to get into. She survived but if the situation was only slightly different she may not have survived. The details I know about the specific car accident are limited but I do know that it was a rear collision with more than two cars, including hers. A driver, who was texting while driving caused the accident. This close family friend suffered for a long time and is most likely suffering to this day because of this accident. Physically, she was severely injured, she broke her back and suffered from many other injuries as well. She was bedridden for quite some time and was hospitalized for months on end. When she finally got out of the hospital she was still very physically impaired. It also took her about a year to be able to feel comfortable driving a car again.

The most important tool is to focus on the road and not be distracted. It is important to think ahead and to learn from even the minor mistakes that you make. Thinking ahead can prevent mistakes. Mistakes in driving are detrimental, they can cost a life. However, there are other very important rules to be followed that can be learned in anyone's state's driver's manual. The rules are simple, all it takes is the initiative to learn them.
