Driving is one of the most essential and important responsibilities a person can control. In the blink of an eye, a deer may run out in the road, or another driver merging into your lane unaware of your presence. The range of unexpected events and situations vary throughout all sorts of things. In this essay four questions will be answered: What is the importance of driver education in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving? What steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving? Have you ever had an experience of being in a car accident or have seen your friends or family members driving irresponsibly? What steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road?
The first question; What is the importance of driver education in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving? According to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2.6 percent of drivers who did not partake in going through drivers education found themselves in an accident or even death, compared to the 2.1 percent that did succeed in the course. Learning the ways around the road is considered “crucial,” in regards that everyone, at some point and time, will have the responsibility of being safe, aware, and patient. It is a great amount of responsibility that follows with knowledge about the road, and experience on the road.
The second question is; What steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving? A few tips to consider while driving to reduce the amount of fatalities and injuries include: Number one, keep your distance. Number two, don’t get distracted. Number three, drive smart. Finally, Number four, don’t drive under the influence. As well as those tips, you can follow safety precautions such as, wearing your seatbelt, adjusting mirrors to where you can see everything surrounding, and even checking the tires from time to time. These steps and tips are just a few of the many you can apply to your driving skills to ensure safety, and decrease the chance of injuries and fatalities.
The third question is; Have you ever had an experience of being in a car accident or have seen your friends or family members driving irresponsibly? I have had many experiences with irresponsible driving from other people. I asked them to slow down or to drive safely, due to the concerns of not only mine, but the friend and others on the road's safety. I had a friend get hit and spun out at a high rate of speed, about five feets above the place that was hit, and he and the other person might not have been walking out of the vehicle on their own two feet. Just recently, my dad was involved in a hit-and-run accident where it ended up totaling his truck. Lucky for him, the accident took place on a dirt road, not allowing the potential of the higher rate of speed that may have occurred if on a highway. Another recent story involved me and that same friend that was involved in the tail-whip accident. Coming back from our hunt, we were stopped on the highway where a curve was, he put on the blinker well before the turn. There was oncoming traffic, so he waited for his chance to turn. As soon as we were turning, an unaware driver flew around the corner and caught us at the last second, over 3000 dollars worth of damage was caused, due to the driver being distracted. I’m not sure if my friends and family members are bad drivers, but I have too many accident stories to share.
The fourth question is; What steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road? According to kidshealth.org, there are a “elite eight” of driving secrets. One to eight the steps include: Think safety first, be aware of your surroundings, do not depend on other drivers, follow the 3-4 second rule, keep your speed down, have an escape route, separate risks, and cut out distractions. I feel like these are the simple, but necessary rules when it comes to being a responsible driver on the road.
In conclusion, being safe on the road is the most important aspect to driving. Not only considering your safety, but those around you as well. Although driving is very risky at times, it has many benefits following the risks. Four questions were covered in this essay, being: What is the importance of driver education in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving? What steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving? Have you ever had an experience of being in a car accident or have seen your friends or family members driving irresponsibly? What steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road?
