We all have to drive sometimes, but driving is also one of the riskiest things that we do every day. Car accidents are among the leading causes of deaths in the United States, especially among teenagers, and with all the numerous reasons that car accidents occur, driver's education is a huge contributing factor in reducing driving fatalities. Throughout this essay, I will inform you of why driver's education is so important, what we can do to reduce driving deaths, and I will inform you of a few of my own personal experiences that left me cognizant of just how lethal driving really is. I will inform you also of what I can do to become a safer driver and also how I can make others safer.
Driver's education matters because it gives people the principles of defensive driving. After people have learned the rules of the road and the risks of driving, they are less likely to make the mistakes that lead to accidents. We are taught to be a good distance away from the car in front of us in driving school, how to properly change lanes, and not to be distracted while driving. But perhaps most importantly, we learn to buckle up and always wear a seatbelt. It is so simple, yet being able to wear a seatbelt could mean life or death should you be in an accident. Some people still think they don't need one, but the truth is, anything can happen while driving, and it's always best to be prepared. Driver's ed also covers defensive driving, which is all about responding to hazards and preventing accidents before they happen. This can literally be a matter of life and death, and it's a big reason why driver's ed is so important.
With all of this traffic safety education, there are still individuals who end up dying in auto accidents every year. So how can this be prevented? One of the biggest things is to get people to wear seatbelts. There are simply too many individuals who disregard this simple safety precaution, and it's something that could very easily be altered. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration asserts that seatbelts save thousands of lives every year, so then picture if every single person used one. There is another way of reducing death and that's to make drinking and driving the law more harsh. Drunken or drug-given drivers murder so many and need to be more strict by law. Tough love on DUI offenders might just make individuals think twice about getting behind the wheel drunk. Coupled with improved legislation, making the roads safer can go a long way. Such as, more readable road signs, filling in potholes, and visible lane markings will all play a part in accident prevention. The second major variable is technology in newer vehicles. These are features like automatic emergency braking or lane-keeping assist, which can prevent accidents caused by human errors, and human errors are the primary reason for most of the accidents.
I also gained some experience in my life which taught me that how important it is to stay safe on the road. In my elementary school time, Aidan's cousin died in a car accident. He was behind the wheel, and his car turned over. He wasn't wearing his seatbelt. He was ejected from the vehicle and didn't survive. It was a tough experience for Aidan and his family, and I'll never be able to describe what I felt when I found out he had passed away. That experience taught me that something so simple as wearing your seatbelt can actually save your life. It actually made me understand that accidents can happen to anyone, no matter how careful you might think you are.
I have personally been involved in a car accident. I was driving my Volkswagen, and I made the error of driving through a stop sign. I wrecked the car, but luckily, I wasn't hurt. It was a wake-up call for me. It made me think about how I really do need to be aware of all the traffic signs, even though I know this area like the back of my hand. A split second of distraction can be terrible. That wreck cost a lot of money, but in the end, I'm glad that I learned from it and am now a better defensive driver because of it.
Another experience that made a lasting impact on me personally was when my Aunt Jen Marlow was in an automobile accident. She was hit by another driver who was not paying attention, and the accident caused long-term injury to her. Seeing the lasting impact that accident had on her and our family taught me the value of safe and responsible driving. It is not just about staying safe yourself – it is about realizing that what you do on the road can affect someone else's life.
These have all shown me how dangerous driving can be. I have learned my lesson, and I am attempting to be a safer driver. First, I always wear my seatbelt now, even if it is a very short journey. I've also stopped texting while driving – it's a sure way to cause an accident. If I'm tired or distracted, I pull over and take a nap instead of jeopardizing myself or other people. I also pay closer attention to traffic regulations, like speed limits and stop signs, and I'll speak up if I see my family or friends driving recklessly.
Other than making sure I'm driving safely, I think it's also important to educate other individuals on the dangers of reckless driving. I can inform other individuals about my experience, especially young drivers, or even join organizations advocating safe driving. If I can stop one person from doing what I did, then it would be worth it. We all have a responsibility to make the roads a safer place, and it starts with each and every one of us doing a better job driving.
Overall, driver's education is a necessary instrument to reduce the number of fatalities from automobile accidents. It is what teaches us the skills of how to comply with traffic laws and drive so that it reduces the chances of dangerous circumstances. With all that education, however, we still require stricter laws, better roadways, and technology to make us all safer drivers. I've learned a lot of things from what has occurred in my life, and I will be a better driver. The more of us that do what we can to drive responsibly, the better it will be for all the rest.
