As a student, I feel that it is important for students to take driving education, due to the fact that it can lead to fewer accidents and safer driving all around. In America, an average of 34,000 people die each year as a result of driving. This is more people who have died in one year as a result of driving than the total number of American soldiers who have died from war in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. The total number of Americans who die within the span of two years as a result of driving is more than the total number of American deaths from the Vietnam War. This is to say, driving is more dangerous and deadly for our nation than being involved in combat, and it highlights the serious consequences of being negligent on the road. Driver’s education can help reduce the number of accidents by teaching students to drive safer on the road and helping them learn to drive. I remember when I did driver education at first, which was online, and you had to go do the permit test. When I had to have my permit for a few months, then I got my licenses when I was 16 years old and 3 months. Safe driving will lead to fewer accidents, which will lower the risk of accidents that cause people to die. One of the steps that can be used to reduce deaths in accidents is wearing your seatbelt. I also think that underage drivers could lead to accidents because they are not experienced enough to be driving a car. Students should drive with a supervisor as many times as possible before driving by themselves. I remember that I drove with the instructors six times before getting my license. Students should limit the number of people in the car when you are driving so the driver does not get distracted by the other passengers. A big problem for new drivers is not being used to driving in different weather conditions, such as heavy rain or snow and ice. Drivers should practice driving in these weather conditions with an experienced driver so they know what to expect when they are driving in these weather conditions. I remember the first time that it rained when I had my permit; my dad took me out to see what it was like to drive in the rain. My dad did the same thing when I drove in snow and ice. My family lives by this curve, and my dad wanted me to get used to sliding and used to what it feels like to get snow in your brake. This is due to the fact that he did not want me to freak out when it happened to me.
I have been in a car accident, but it was a few years when my parents were driving. My dad, mom, grandma, and I were heading home from a softball game, and we were driving on the highway. Then, out of nowhere, a deer came out of the corn fields and ran out into the middle of the highway when we were driving. The good thing was that my dad saw the deer, and it limited the damage to the car. The bad thing was that the deer got hurt and there was damage to the car. My dad dodges the deer at first, and then the deer tries to stop running and slides into the passenger side behind the driver’s side. While my grandma was sitting in the spot that the deer slid into. I was very nervous that the deer was going to hit the car very hard and the airbag was going to inflate and hurt my grandma. But at least with my dad’s safe driving, it caused my grandma to be safe and our car not to have a lot of damage done to it. I learned that it is important to be aware of your surroundings when you are driving from my dad's experience with the deer on the highway.
The steps that a person can take to become a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road are by being aware of where you are and where you are going. If the driver is aware of where you are going, you are not having to do u-turns and have to brake hard. If you brake hard and the person behind you is driving, really choose to hit you.
