Driver Initiative Essay

Driving is a good skill to have, but it can also be very dangerous. It’s estimated that about 34,000 people die each year as a result of driving. That’s more deaths than the Iraq War and the War in Afghanistan combined! Thus, it’s very important to be a safe educated driver.

Drivers education is helpful in reducing the number of deaths, crashes, and tickets per year. It teaches you the proper way to drive in traffic, what to do when there are other bad drivers, how to avoid a collision, how to avoid tickets, and how to drive safely and responsibility. With proper education such as this it will teach drivers to be more aware and safer in general. Drivers that have not received drivers ed are more likely to get into a car crash because they don't know what to do in a certain situation or proper rules such as who has the right of way.

There are many steps that can be taken to reduce the deaths that are related to driving. One of the biggest steps are eliminating distracted driving. With technology and innovation becoming more advanced than ever, texting and driving is on the rise. Texting while driving takes your eyes off the road, and when you’re paying attention to the road you’re so much more at risk to crash.We need a device that turns off phones completely while the car is in motion. This will help lower the amount of deaths by a lot.

I have had an experience where someone I know was driving irresponsibly. A friend of mine used to take me to school when I was younger; before I could drive. They drove way over the speed limit, and texted and played games on their phone while the car was in motion. It made me feel very scared for my safety. It made me very nervous for school that day too. Had they not done these things, I would have felt safer.

For me to be safer on the road, I can speed less. I tend to speed when I’m in a hurry, and I should be more conscious about my speed because I could end of rear ending someone or running a red light if im not paying attention. For others to be safer on the road they can avoid things such as speeding, distracted driving, having a car with advanced safety features, and being more aware, and having previous drivers ed. If these things are practiced more often, we can lower the of deaths associated with driving per year.
