Driver's education is an important thing all around the world. There is an average of 34,000 deaths a year as a result of driving. That is more deaths than soldiers we lost in Iraq. So when you see it that way you can tell this is something we need to change. By making driver education more known or available the numbers can decrease. But driver education is super important to lowering those numbers, because where else are people going to learn the safety and proper parts of driving.
There are plenty of steps we can take as a whole or individuals to decrease this number. The first step could be making every state enforce drivers education for 6 months before you can take your drivers test. In some states this is already a law but we need to stretch it to all 50 states. Drivers education could also have sponsors to help them promote more. They just need to be talked about or be more known. We should also make you retake a test and classes each time you have to renew a license. So when you renew your license you have to retake the test as well as taking at least 5 more driving classes. Because over time people just get careless and get comfortable driving and let loose on laws and that's where we start getting accidents. One more big step could be on cops, the amount of people I know who get let off for something especially more than once. So cops are playing a role in unsafe driving by allowing people to get away with it so they become more careless.
I've had the experience of being in a car accident, as well as seeing people I love being in car accidents. When I was 6 years old my family, which included my mom, dad, brother, and I, were driving to the town over on i-70. We were on a bridge crossing the Missouri river in a jeep. The man behind us hit us at full speed which then sandwiched us between him and the lady ahead of us. This ended up causing a huge pile up on the bridge. My mother had gotten knocked out, my fathers back ended up breaking, my brother broke his arm, and I was okay other than being shaken up. Then seeing someone I love in an accident would be my father. He was leaving work for his lunch to come home while it was snowing out. Some lady was going way too fast around a corner and couldn't stop. She then proceeded to drive right into the front of the driver's side of his truck. This accident left my father with a broken neck. He had never gotten his back fixed so now he has a broken neck and back.
Some steps I will take personally are just being more aware, safer in all aspects, and respecting driving laws. This is something everyone should do though. There are so many things I can do to fix myself and my driving skills. I know how to be safe and I know the laws. I admit at times I can be unsafe and I shouldn't. If any traffic law is broken it's unsafe that's what they are there for. So the biggest thing I'm personally going to do is just abide by the law and stay aware. Fixing my habits to stay safe is one step in the right direction.
Now there are alot of things I as a person can do to help the people I know drive safer. I hang out with my friends often and in our small town there isn't much to do. Our main thing consists of driving around. We take turns driving, so I can use that time to either talk to them or get on to them for their actions. It's important in that position to not succumb to peer pressure or be scared of what they will say. When they do certain things I will hold them accountable but in a proper way. I'll talk to them about what they did and how we can do it better. When it's my turn and I'm driving , if i'm the one who makes a mistake, I'll point out how I did it wrong. The more something is talked about and drilled into someone's brain the more likely they will start to understand and start to pick up on it as well.
So that's a small example of how driver education is important. This is such a huge topic world wide that it will take a long time to fix or make it better. So hopefully with a mix of my ideas and everyone else we can come together as a whole and reduce the number of deaths due to driving.
