There are many steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. There are many roads around me that should not be able to be driven on. There are also spots where almost every week I see an accident because they didn’t wait to merge. It’s a road with a ramp coming off from the highway, but there is just a yield sign for turning right. It could be better to put a traffic light or add a lane for the cars merging just for more time to merge. This addition could prevent car accidents from happening. During big nights for partying or holidays, there should be more police along roads watching for impaired drivers. I personally have never been in a car accident but I have been in the passenger seat with the driver driving irresponsibly. They are usually on their phone or messing with their music. It is sometimes scary when they start crossing over the lines or when they drive over the right edge and go over the lines that make the noise to alert you of where you are. Also I have driven with someone who wants to act all cool for their passengers by speeding and accelerating fast after a red light or stop sign. They think it's all fun and games until something serious happens.
I am always wanting to take steps to be a better and safer driver whether by reading information online or seeing it on the news. One way my family does it is by having the Statefarm Drive Safe and Save app and tracker on the car. It tracks speeding, acceleration, braking, cornering and phone use. It helps you save money for car insurance but you can also use it to your advantage by always wanting to have the best score in your family. This encourages good driving especially for the teenagers in the family because who doesn’t like competition between siblings, I know I do. Another way you can be a safe driver is by being aware of the cars around you. Just because your diving safe and smart doesn’t mean the person next to you is, so always be aware. If you're driving with someone who you're close with and they are not driving safe or smart maybe just try saying something to them or telling them a fact about what happens when driving distracted. Little things like that can help in a big way even if they don't seem like it.
