is a Privilege, Not a Right
Driving
a car is something we have taken for granted in today’s society. It
is also something that many people don’t take very seriously.
Driving takes all of your attention. It is not something you can
casually do while talking on the phone, putting on makeup, and eating
a sandwich. Driving takes concentration, focus, and most importantly,
road knowledge. Without any one of these things, driving becomes
extremely dangerous. Over thirty-six thousand people died last year
in a traffic accident. Most of the time it was because a driver was
doing something illegal. Although every driver is required to pass a
driving test when they first get their license, over time the
knowledge they had learned could be easy to forget. If drivers were
required to be retested maybe every five or so years, it would reduce
the number of deaths. I personally have been in a car accident due to
another driver turning left on red. The left headlight of our car was
severely damaged. Thankfully, neither I nor anyone else was injured
because my dad swerved to the left when he saw the other driver
coming toward us. But it could have been much worse, especially since
both of my little sisters were in the car with us. To become a better
and safer driver myself, I should always remember to not let other
things distract me as I drive, and to obey the traffic laws, no
matter how inconvenient they may be.
