On average, around 1.3 million people lose their lives in driving related accidents each year. This means that almost 3500 per day are killed in car accidents. It’s important that prior to receiving a license that the candidates go through a rigorous driving safety course to be sure that they are fully prepared to drive on the road and know what to do in case they get into an accident. When teens get their license, it is important to go through a process to make sure they completely understand the rules of the road so they can drive safely and with caution. It is also important that teens know what to do in case of an accident or if there is a problem while they are driving. If drivers are aware of how to prevent situations where they can injure themselves or others, this would prevent more accidents which in turn would lower the number of deaths associated with driving accidents. Steps like more drivers ed, a more rigorous driving test, and making sure new drivers understand the rules of the road and can drive safely will reduce the number of deaths related to driving. My mom and uncle were in a car accident last May, and it made me realize how much drivers have to watch other drivers on the road to make sure they stay safe. My mom and uncle were following the rules of the road, yet they were in an almost fatal accident because of the recklessness of another driver. The other driver darted across the road when they did not have the right of way which caused an accident because they decided to not wait a few more seconds to cross the road when it was safe. After this accident, I became a lot more cautious when driving and watched the other drivers on the road a lot more closely. I can become a better and safer driver as well as help others driving on the road by telling everyone to be safe and careful when driving. I find it very important to be completely concentrated when driving, which means I am against distracted driving. It is important to not text or call when driving so that all of your attention is on keeping yourself and those around you safe when driving. In conclusion, it is very important to drive carefully and safely to reduce the number of deaths related to driving each year. I will make it my personal mission to make sure that everyone I know is driving safely so they can protect themselves and everyone around them.
