Driving with
tomorrow in mind.
The first time I got
behind the wheel of a car I was 15 years old. At the age of 16 years
old I was in my first car accident. I was driving home from school
when the cars on the road started to slow down. Out of nowhere, my
car is lunged forward from the impact of a car rear-ending me. The
shock at the moment something life-threatening happens will rid all
common sense out of your mind. After the initial shock of the impact
had greatly decreased I got out of the car that was still in the
middle of the road and called the cops. After investing what happened
it was concluded the driver behind me was on the phone when my car
slowed down which caused her not to notice. If the driver had been
paying attention and not on the phone while driving the accident
could have been prevented. In a generation greatly influenced by
technology, we must learn how to put down technology when behind the
wheel of a very deadly machine. People need to make sure that when
they are driving a car a cellphone should not be anywhere nearby.
Cellphones have been the cause of about 1.6 million car crashes each
year. We need to work on lowering the about of car accidents caused
by car crashes and educating teenagers about the serious danger of
using a cellphone while driving. By requiring teenagers to take
drivers ed classes, we give adults an outlet to educate teens
on the dangers of cars. These classes are a way for people to make
the roads everyone drives on safe and accident-free. I personally
believe everyone should practice safe driving techniques like keeps a
phone in a pocket or purse when driving, take out all headphones and
keeping electronic devices away from the driver's seat. I will
continue to practice these safe habits to make sure less lives are
lost due to the accident caused on roads.
