You never know the extreme of your actions and how it can affect many people around you until something opens up your eyes. Imagine that you are back in high school and you have just got your license after driving with your parents for the last 6 months. You are ecstatic. The crisp idea of freedom is in your mind, and you jump into your car and start driving home on your own for the first time. Your nerves are through the roof, you're forgotten to put your seatbelt on, you're switching music on your phone, and not paying attention to the traffic around you. You're singing along to our favorite song on full volume and end up missing the stop sign and end up hitting a car with a family in it and killing one of the kids in the car. This is something that you weren't expecting to happen and it will haunt you for the rest of your life. The simple miss of a stop sign can change your life forever. This is why driving safety is so important for everyone to learn and depend on.
Driving education is important for all ages to know and refresh throughout their lives. There are many reasons for this. The first is to be confident in your driving. Without knowledge I wouldn't feel comfortable to drive safely and that is why people read the DMV book before they can get a learner's permit. If more people practiced safe driving procedures when they drive they would be less dangerous on the road and to others. Driving safety is always changing, so staying up with the times and the procedure of safe driving is important because it will make the roads a safer place.
I have been in a car accident before and it was definitely traumatic for me. We were a victim of a driver hitting us because they were under the influence. We were in Reno getting ready to do a u-turn at a red light, and a car driving way faster than the speed limit flew over the median and hit the drivers side of our car. I was around 7 when the accident happened and it was all confusing for me at the time. But because the people who hit us were under the influence I got anxiety and I got very anxious in cars. The people who hit our car never knew that they were going to affect someone's life when they hit our car, but they did. They were not practicing safe driving behaviors because they were under the influence when driving, and driving recklessly.
Some safety procedures you can take to be a safe driver is to always be alert about your surroundings. Many people drive and it almost becomes a blur to them on how they drive because they were in a daze. This isn't a good way to drive because it causes accidents. Make sure you are always in full mode to drive and be alert about it. Another safe driving behavior is checking the condition of your car before driving it. Check the oil, lights, tires, and the condition of the car before driving. Make sure you have enough gas to get you where you're going because being on the side of the road with a broken down car is never a safe driving activity. Lastly the best way to be safe when you're driving is to not to be under the influence. Anything that can alter your mind in a negative way isn't safe to be driving with. Smoking, drinking, medication all can be killers for the safety of driving.
Some steps I can take to be a better driver and set a good example for over drivers is to know the rights and wrongs of driving. Being aware of my surroundings, not drinking and driving, know the signs I drive around, never speed, and just correct yourself with any mistakes I might make when driving. How I can help others be better drivers is, let them know good driving behaviors, and just be a good example of a prepared safe driver.
So let's go back to the first scenario I gave about a teen just getting his license and causing an accident and how his actions should have been to be a safer driver. First, the teen should have settled down his nerves before getting behind the wheel. His nerves made him not follow through on his safe driving behaviors. After he calmed down, he should check his car to make sure it is ready to drive. After that he should buckle up to make himself safe. When he is driving, he should follow the speed limit and watch the signs around him. With him doing so, he never hits the car and never causes an accident because of bad driving safety.
