Being a safe driver is important too. There are many steps that can be taken to be a better and safer driver. Wearing seatbelts makes you safe if you are in an accident. Not texting and driving keeps you safe as well. You stay focused on the road and the people around you. You need to keep your eyes on the road for the people that cut in front of you. You need to be able to have a quick reaction time. If you are texting and driving, you are not putting all of your attention to the road and that is very unsafe for you, your passengers and the people around you.
Another way to be a safe driver is not to drink and drive. Responsibility also plays a part in this as well. If you choose to drink, make sure you have a designated driver to get you home safely and not to jeopardize lives on the road. Watching your speed is another factor for safe driving. It’s important to stick to the speed limit posted to keep everyone safe.
Making sure to keep a safe distance between you and the person in front of you allows you to be able to stop safely. It allows you to avoid situations that could force you to brake hard which could cause the person behind you to possibly hit you. This is also important when the weather is bad like in rain and snow where you need to make sure you have a safe distance from the other person.
If you are feeling tired you should not drive. Being tired and driving is not safe. You are unable to focus and put your full attention on the road. It reduces your reaction time and decision making. This puts you and others in danger.
Obeying stop signals and signs and following right-of-way rules is also important for safe driving.
Wearing your seatbelt, not texting and driving, not feeling tired, watching your speed, not drinking and driving, not driving reckless, obeying signs and keeping a safe distance are all ways to reduce deaths and accidents on the road when driving.
I have not been in a car accident or known of anyone that had been in a car accident. I do know that car accidents can cause injury and sometimes death whether it’s to you, someone else or both. Some car accident injuries can be minor and some can be serious. Some people have to go through extensive physical therapy, surgeries, etc. due to being in a car accident. Car insurance goes up due to accidents and you could get your car totaled or have to have repairs which also leads to more expenses. There could also be fines and legal actions taken from being in a car accident.
Driving safely by obeying the law and following the rules on the road reduces the risk of being in a car accident. Not driving recklessly like weaving in and out of lanes constantly can also reduce car accidents and death. This is why driver education is important to help keep everyone safe.
