Driving can be scary for some, it can cause anxiety to people who have driven their whole lives or to those who have only driven in such a short amount of time. Why is this? The reason as to why driving can cause anxiety is because the driver has a responsibility for the pedestrian’s lives. They are in control and can either minimize or maximize any harm done. The approximate amount of deaths due to a car crash in 2024 is about 18,720. That’s the approximate amount of people’s lives lost all due to the ignorance of taking precautions. Imagine if that was you, your family, friends, people you know, you would like for others to be more careful, to take precautions, to minimize the risk of death. Some steps new or experienced driver’s can take is driver’s education. Driver’s education is to inform the person behind the vehicle to take precautions at all times. There are different subjects that people can learn more about on how to control a vehicle, how to follow the traffic laws and regulations, it also teaches the dangers of being distracted. Some examples include driving while the music is too loud or reaching out for a phone that can potentially lead to a car crash. There are various lessons driver’s education teaches you that is super important for the driver to learn about. In order to reduce the amount of deaths caused by a car accident, drivers or passengers should be aware of their surroundings at all times. This can be by paying attention to what is happening on the streets. Sometimes there are many reckless drivers that are speeding, passing red lights, or drunk driving. To avoid becoming one, paying attention helps you be aware of this type of driving and you can take action by slowing down, not driving a vehicle if you are drunk, or keeping a safe distance between you and other drivers. Following traffic laws increases your knowledge in driving. It makes you realize what you can and can’t do. Another thing is to never forget your seatbelt. Even if you get into a car crash, wearing a seatbelt can minimize the risk of you getting seriously hurt.About a year ago in February 2023, I got into a car crash. My grandma was the one driving and my siblings and I had just gotten out of school. After the driver hit us from the back, everyone started panicking. My grandma started crying and couldn’t even pick up the phone to call the police officers. Both of my siblings couldn't believe what had just happened and went into shock mode, and I didn’t know how to respond. I called the cops since my grandma wasn’t responding to what just had happened. After the cops came we were asked to pull to the side and they asked a bunch of questions. My mom was currently working at the time so I had to call her work and after picking up the phone she came straight to us and picked us up. We went to the ER and later after the accident had happened, we had to see a chiropractor since our bodies were hurt. It was definitely a shocking experience and the driver that crashed into us was a young driver, she looked around my age. Another accident happened during that year as well, not to me but my cousin. It ended in him losing his life because of an accident that happened on the road. His friend was driving and one of their tires blew out while they were on the highway. His friend pressed on the brake and it made him lose control over the vehicle. It ended with them going across the other streets and ending up in a ditch. Fortunately his friend made it alive, but unfortunately my cousin didn’t. He died instantly, and because he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt he flew out of the window. Maybe if he was wearing a seatbelt, and maybe if his friend had known what to do in that situation, then maybe he would still be alive to this day. To avoid these types of crashes, become self aware. Practice if you don’t know much about driving, and if you just have a permit, drive with someone who is of age and has their license. Take precautions in order to not hurt anyone or yourself, always wear your seatbelt, and if you see someone that got into a car crash, don't be afraid to help them out.
