When I opened my eyes, everything was frozen. The sounds of my mom screaming “No! No!” kept repeating in my head as I was trying to comprehend what had happened. My hands started shaking and tears rolled down my cheeks. I looked over at my mom and I instantly felt relieved that we were both okay. The crazy thing about car accidents is that they can stop time in one single moment. Even though the car accident I was in was a few years ago, I still think about it today, especially since I am able to drive alone now. From that experience, I make sure to eliminate all distractions when I am driving and always be fully focused on getting to my destinations safely. Furthermore, I always make sure that I am aware of my surroundings when I am driving, just in case other drivers might not be doing what there are supposed to, and looking out for people who may not be driving, but are crossing the street or waiting at a stoplight.

Driver education allows individuals to be given knowledge on what it means to be a safe driver. Most people learn information regarding traffic signs and their meanings, what to do when you are driving in difficult weather conditions, and how your actions behind the wheel affect other people as soon as you get on the road. Driver education is vital to help reduce the number of deaths from driving, because it explains just how dangerous driving can be if you are not always aware of what you are doing or if you drive recklessly. With driver education, people can learn how deaths from driving can be prevented if they drive carefully and follow all of the necessary rules on the road.

Although it is mandatory for every driver to follow all traffic laws and safety precautions while driving, sometimes, that is not enough. Even if you do everything right all the time when driving, it is still possible to get into a car accident or become a victim of a driving-related death, even if it is not your fault. Another step that can be taken to hopefully reduce the number of deaths related to driving is to become a defensive driver and be able to adapt quickly to change. Defensive driving is a very important skill that all drivers should have, because it can not always be guaranteed that all drivers will be doing what they are supposed to do. Therefore, defensive driving allows drivers to respond to poor driving if they need to, and be able to adapt to a person who may not be driving at their best, or not following the rules. This will help to reduce the number of deaths related to driving by protecting not only yourself but other drivers in the surrounding area.

These small steps can make the driving community more safe overall, and can help to prevent situations where small mistakes can have dangerous, and sometimes life-threatening consequences.
