Many teenagers dismiss the importance of driver’s ed, mostly because they think that driving behind a car is easy. Driver’s education teaches new driver’s that someone won’t always be there to tell you that the light is red, that you’re going too fast, that another driver isn’t stopping. Driver’s ed is what sets the groundwork for new drivers and is what creates a safe space out on our roads. Instead of having just one in-person driver’s test that dictates how safe a driver is, there should be a concurrent amount of tests taken over the span of weeks. This not only can prevent one-off chances of mistakes but also gives the tester a better understanding of how that person drives. Even a bad driver can get lucky once during a driving test, but after they get their license, they are still a bad driver. Using this span of tests, we can greatly reduce the number of deaths due to reckless drivers. I remember once when I was young, my older brother was driving. This was just a few weeks after he had gotten his license and we crashed into another driver. Thankfully, no one was majorly hurt except for the cars but the memory still makes me even more alert when driving. Nowadays, I always make sure that when I’m in the car with a friend to be on the look-out for any risks. With my friends, I make sure to tell them before driving them that if they see anything wrong with my driving to tell me as I don’t care if I’m offended, only if I don’t hurt anybody.
