“In
The Driver’s Seat”


Driving
on the open road is a dangerous and potentially very stressful event
for anyone. When combined with inexperience and the added pressures
and distractions of teen life, it is no wonder so many deaths and
accidents occur with these youths. By educating teens thoroughly and
maintaining constant awareness on the roads, the number of deaths and
accidents should decrease. Education should go beyond just a booklet
and a few hours of driving, but a thorough exploration of all sorts
of experiences and situations, as well as a more comprehensive
written test. I, myself, have never had to experience a car accident,
but I have witnessed what happens when someone is in that type of
situation. Not only does it leave severe physical injuries, but the
emotional scars that it carries have also effected people I know to
this day. They are scared to drive alone, and it is clear that their
accident changed them in many aspects of their lives. Personally, I
know I need to continue with my safe driving habits and encourage
these that I am with to do the same. As teenagers, technology is a
huge part of our lives, but it is important to keep such distractions
separate when behind the wheel, as well as helping and not
distracting when in the passenger seat. Driving should be a privilege
that is earned, and when safety and education are no longer the main
priorities, everyone on the road is in jeopardy.
