the Driver’s Seat” Scholarship

I
think it is so important for drivers, especially teenagers, to attend
a class of drivers ed. If each licensed driver was
thoroughly educated then the number of deaths could be lowered. There
are so many things that I still remember from my class at Weiser High
School, and I was only a freshman. The biggest thing that I remember
is which way to turn your wheel and brake, or not brake, when driving
on a slippery road. This is extremely important because it could
cause a very bad accident that is not necessarily the drivers fault.
So if each driver was educated on this topic I am sure that the
number of deaths in the winter would be lowered. Without drivers
education too many unexperienced drivers, with no education, would be
driving the road and would not be safe for anyone. It would not even
be safe for people walking on the sidewalk.

Some
extra steps that could be taken to reduce deaths could be making sure
less people leave the bar drunk. This could be done by hiring a
driver for a bar, always having taxi’s near, or only allowing one
person from each group to drink a certain amount, unless they already
have someone that is planning to drive them. I think something like
this is very important because many deaths occur due to drunk
driving. I also think that many deaths occur due to distracted
driving. The good news is the texting while driving has been banned
in 48 states. This is a serious topic because I am sure that over a
million people die a year from driving and it often kills innocent
people.

I
have never been in a car accident, but I have seen one in front of
me. I am still not exactly sure how the crash happened, but I am
assuming that the driver coming around the corner was distracted and
did not turn. Therefore running into the truck pulling a trailer. My
mom, grandma, and I were right behind the truck, when all of a sudden
my mom slammed on her brakes and pulled off the road to avoid hitting
the trailer, and she instantly called 9-1-1. I did not see the crash
head on because I was not looking out the front window when it
happened, but when I did look I just remember a bunch of dirt flying
everywhere and the trailer was spinning in the air. It was pretty
scary because I was young at the time and I wasn’t allowed to get
out of the car. I have also been in a car when a friend was driving a
little recklessly, but they still checked for cars and we never came
close to hitting anyone.

Some
steps that I could take is to make sure I am not in a rush when I am
driving. I drive a lot for a teenager because I go to the pioneer
school, high school, cheer practice, and work. It is all around the
town, but I feel like it is more needed driving than most teenagers.
So I think it is important that I give myself enough time to drive to
my designation. Another step that I could take is watching other
drivers too; in case they were to make a mistake in driving as well.
