I would like to begin by introducing myself, my name is Giselle Guzman and I am currently a high school Senior at University Preparatory. Driver Education is very important to me because it can help reduce the amount of fatalities that occur worldwide. By teaching more people how to operate a car safely, they will be able to prevent more collisions.

The Association for Safe International Road Travel states that “Nearly 1.25 million people die in road crashes each year.” More people die from unsafe driving habits worldwide than the amount of U.S deaths in World War I, the American Civil War, and the Vietnam War combined. This shows just how dangerous and important drivers ed is to reduce these numbers. By giving more drivers ed to the people, they will be able to make safer choices that will help them prevent more accidents from occurring.

Also, even though road laws are established many people still need to learn many basic steps while conducting a vehicle. These steps can include alertness, driving the speed limit, wearing seatbelts, not taking drugs before driving (this includes prescription drugs), not text and drive, use indicator lights, follow sign indications, and many other things. By following these steps people are going to be able to help reduce the number of deaths by a huge percentage.

I have never been in a car accident, but I have seen one happen. My family and I were on our way to Los Angeles and we were on the freeway. We had to slow down because there was a lot of traffic when suddenly a car sped right next to us and hit the car that was next to us. The car that got hit was thrown across three lines and rebounded back to the first line. This was the scariest experience I have ever had because the car that was thrown almost hit us. To be honest, I still think about that accident to this day.

Steps that I can take to become a safer driver is to not be on my phone, always look at my mirrors and scan the road in front of me, drive the speed limit, and always be alert for any possible dangers up ahead. I can help my family and friends become safer drivers by telling them the importance of driving safely and teaching them these steps.

In conclusion, drivers ed is very important for the safety of yourself and others on the road. Operating a vehicle is both a privilege and a hazard that must be taken seriously at all times. Please take precautionary actions whenever you are driving to ensure safety especially since you are not the only one on the road. Thank you for reading my essay and hopefully this will help save others’ lives.
