There are many different steps that should be taken into consideration when trying to reduce the number of vehicle related accidents. One of the most important steps that need to be taken is eliminating distractions. Arguably one of the most distracting things when driving is your cell phone. Cell phones have become very important to the growth of our world as well, but we all need to be disciplined enough to stay off of it when driving. If someone really needs to be on or look at their cell phone when driving, they need to pullover on the side of the road and do it safely. Not only would they be doing themselves a favor, they’re doing the other innocent civilians drivers a favor by doing things safely as well. Another step that can be taken to reduce the number of vehicle related deaths is to make sure one always wears their seatbelt. This one is very important because it should be the first thing one does when he or she gets in their vehicle to start driving. Seatbelts save lives. There is a reason they’re sign everywhere on the highways and interstates telling people to buckle up. Additionally, another step that should be taken to reduce driving accidents is avoiding speeding. This is another big one that has to be taken seriously because like putting your seatbelt on right as one gets in the car, it is so simple to do and execute. Speeding also correlates with staying off your phone because this one requires discipline as well. All drivers have to do is follow the speed limit signs. There is no reason for speeding at all. Lastly, maintaining one’s vehicle is super important because this can help reduce this risk of a mechanical issue with one’s car. This can help reduce driving accidents because by doing your own maintenance, it can he or she if there is a problem with the car before he or she starts driving it. Although they’re many other steps that can be taken to reduce driving accidents, these four are arguably the biggest ones that still get ignored to this day.
I have been most fortunate to say that I have never been in a car accident, but I know people who have been in one. I would say 98% of the accidents I have heard about have all been with an animal, so a freak accident in which they couldn’t really do anything about. The other 2% of accidents I have heard about have been from one of the four things I mentioned above distractions, seatbelts, speeding, and not performing their own maintenance.
Reducing driving accidents is a main concern for the world today. Driving rules and regulations often get overlooked because people get too relaxed and they start doing things that are not only dangerous for them, but others as well. I think a good step to reduce driving accidents is every few years; there is a mandatory driver’s education course that must be retaken to keep everyone skills sharp. Another step that can be taken is to do an annual or biannual drivers test for everyone. Having this annual or biannual test will allow for a driver to constantly be aware of everything they’re doing in the vehicle as well as the surroundings when driving. As a result, the driver’s education course overall produces small wins from lessons taught. This in turn creates an overall better driving performance from the new driver, thus reducing number of deaths on the road proving the effectiveness of driver’s education.
