The importance of driver’s education and reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving is very important. I’ve noticed on the sides of the roads whenever I’m in the car with my parents or relatives that the police are pulling people over, or there will be late night car accidents, or early morning car accidents. Once, I was on my way to work early in the morning, and there was a coroner's car on the scene of an incident, meaning that someone had died on scene. Understanding how to drive and how to do it safely is very important so that you don’t end up being driven away in a body bag. It’s also important to reduce the number of deaths through drivers education because it sets an example for those ahead of you who have yet to drive, it’s an example for those around you and it helps you become a better driver and a better person. Lastly, it also keeps your record clean of any driving incidents. Occasionally, I watch the television show on the streaming service Peacock called Court Cam, and most, if not half, of the crimes that are commented on in the TV show are cases that involve driving under the influence. When I get to the age of 21, and especially now, I find it important that if I even have just a small sip of alcohol, I should already have a ride prepared for me to get home.
The steps I can take to reduce the number of deaths include repeatedly refreshing driver’s education and reviewing the laws of the road to make sure that not only are you updated on how to drive, but to maintain your updated status so that you understand what is legal and what is illegal. For example, if something that used to be legal changes to now be illegal, you’re aware of that change and now you can drive accordingly.
I myself have been in a car accident. It wasn’t a major one. Thankfully, it was just a rear end in the parking lot of a store. My mother was about to pull off the lot and another car ran into us. So there wasn’t a lot of damage done to anybody. I do notice that my parents speed on the highway, going at least 25 to 30 over the limit. The time that it really becomes irritating or the moment that we should get pulled over immediately is when either of my parents take their hands off the wheel and get on their phones, even for a second. Another step that I can take in order to reduce the number of deaths is to only use hands-free calling. Or if I end up having a vehicle that does not support hands-free calling or does not have a console in the middle of it, then I can put my phone on do not disturb and wait until I get to my destination or into the parking lot of my destination and go back to using my phone. One last step I can take to reduce the number of deaths in driving incidents is to avoid what’s called highway hypnosis. Essentially what it is, is that when you are on the road for so long, everything seems monotonous and you sort of zone out, and I’ve read on a practice permit test to avoid highway hypnosis is to try and focus on several different things on the road, focusing on things that are near, things that are far, essentially anything in front of you that isn’t the road while also being aware of where your vehicle is.
The steps that I can take to be a better and safer driver and to help others be safer on the road is to understand that once you get into a car accident, it happens quickly. Understanding the fact that I always have to be aware of my surroundings, understanding the fact that if I get into a car accident accident, I could be responsible for the lives of the people in the other car or they could be responsible for mine, and understanding the fact that I would rather get somewhere alive and late than early and dead.
Being a safe driver is a decision that is not hard to make. It’s easy to get into a car crash just as it is easy to drive to your destination safely and without injury. The best way for me to be a safe driver is to obey any and all laws and mandates, being aware of my surroundings, and respecting all other drivers and pedestrians when I’m on the road.
