I have seen people drive irresponsibly, and it can be scary. One time, I was in a car with a friend who was texting while driving. I can put my phone away while driving so I am not tempted to text or look at messages. I can follow the speed limit and pay attention to signs and signals. If I am tired or not feeling well, I can ask someone else to drive or wait until I feel better. I can also make sure my car is in good shape by checking the brakes, tires, and lights. If I see someone driving dangerously, I can speak up and ask them to be more careful. I can also share what I know about safe driving with friends and family, especially younger people who are just learning to drive.
Helping others become safer drivers is important, too. I can remind my friends not to text and drive or drive after drinking. I can offer to drive if someone is tired or upset. I can encourage people to take driver education classes and learn more about safe driving. If I see someone making a mistake, I can talk to them in a kind way and explain why it’s important to be careful. By setting a good example and sharing what I know, I can help make the roads safer for everyone.
