In my opinion, every student should learn the amount of deaths related to driving in their state per year. Many people, including myself, don’t realize how high the statistics are until we see a chart or graph that shows us the number of deaths in car accidents. Increasing awareness of these facts is an important first step we need to take in order to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. We should also teach students that your life and other lives are at risk every time your drive. Driving recklessly can cause severe harm to yourself and others. Parents and instructors should teach their students how to avoid mistakes in specific situations on the road. For example, I was taught that you should never drive right next to or in the blind spot of another driver on the highway. This information is very valuable because it keeps my life and other lives safe. Another step that can greatly reduce deaths is limiting distractions while driving. Driving on its own is a very complicated task, and adding more things to concentrate on will lead to less attention to the road. Reduced concentration on the road can have severe consequences for that driver.
Thankfully, I have never been in a car accident before, however, I have seen my friends on their phones while driving. This is very dangerous because it decreases their sight and attention to the road, and increases the likelihood of hitting another car.
Personally, I will learn from these mistakes listed above and gain knowledge about specific situations and how to handle them. I can also help my friends and family by reducing distractions in their car, like putting their phone on silent mode. This will overall help my friends and family stay more alert throughout the entire car ride, and this is key in decreasing the number of the deaths by car accidents each year.
