Driving is rather an integral part of my life. It gives me that freedom to go wherever I want and whenever I need to-be it for work, school, or running errands. But along with that freedom comes a lot of responsibility. We get to hear about more and more people dying in car accidents, and it truly makes me ponder on how very important driver education is. Driver education can help reduce these tragic deaths, and I try to share in this essay what steps we can take in making our roads safer, recount some personal experiences I have had with reckless driving, and what I can do in the light of it all to be a better driver myself and help others stay safe.

Importance of Driver Education
I strongly believe that road safety depends on driver education. Teaching people the rules of the road and safe driving habits will make quite a lot of difference in the prevention of accidents. Driver education teaches us not only how to operate the vehicle but also to be aware of our surroundings and make smart choices while driving.
I remember all the helpful lessons taught on the dangers of things like distracted driving, speeding, and driving under the influence of alcohol when I took my driver's education classes. These have really stuck with me and have made me a much more cautious driver. For example, I learned just how hazardous it is to check your phone for messages while you drive. I now always keep my phone out of reach so I can maintain my concentration on the road.
I have found that educated drivers are much less likely to be involved in accidents. Once educated, we are more likely to think twice before behaving in a dangerous way. One of the most important pieces of information I took from my driver's education was the importance of seat belts. Every time I begin my car now and get ready to travel somewhere, I make sure that all passengers in my car are buckled up. A simple act like this can help save lives, and it is a behavior I have incorporated into my life.

Steps to Reduce Deaths Caused by Car Crashes
There are many ways we can work our way toward reducing the number of deaths caused by car crashes. For one, driver education programs must be enriched. This, I believe, schools and governments must unite to make driver education more accessible and affordable to the common man. Driving safely is a right everyone deserves to know irrespective of one's background or present financial state.
In addition, the better availability of driver education has to be complemented with more stringent laws against distracted driving. There should be serious penalties for using phones while driving in order to deter such dangerous behavior. When people know that they might face some sort of consequence, they become much more attentive on the road.
It's also a very important step in raising the awareness of people regarding dangerous irresponsible driving. Every time I see ads or hear statements related to drunk driving or overspeeding, it really reminds me of how grave these matters are. Safe driving campaigns can make people give a second thought to their bad choice when they are behind the wheels.
We will also have to address the condition of our roads. I have seen many accidents due to ill-maintained roads or unlegible signs. If we keep our roads in decent condition and make all traffic signs plausible, it would save many causes of accidents. This is where the local governments have to take part in maintaining roads so that everyone can be safe on the road.

My Personal Experience with Reckless Driving
Experiences of reckless driving have been eye-opening, both from my actions and those of my friends and family. Once in a car with a friend who was speeding and never bothered to pay attention to the road, I felt scared and anxious the whole time. Thankfully, we didn't have an accident, but that experience made me realize how perilous irresponsible driving is. It showed me how quick a moment of carelessness can lead one to a serious accident.
I've also witnessed the reckless behavior amongst my friends and family. One in the family used to run every stop sign through and regularly speed over the limit, which really made me concerned about his and others' safety on the road. That situation taught me that when it involves safe driving, it is very important to speak up. I started discussing responsible driving with my friends and family. Sometimes, it's not easy to confront a friend or anyone for that matter about driving; however, I realize it's a must if it means keeping everyone safe.

What Am I Doing to Drive Better?
I know in order to be a better driver, I need to keep on learning safe driving practices and the responsibility that comes with it. Refresher courses and workshops will be taken so as to update myself with the new laws and safety tips in place. This would keep me posted and remind me of how important safe driving is.
I want to pay more attention to keeping myself focused while driving. This would be done by keeping my phone away from me and not engaging in any actions that divert my attention from the road. For instance, I will set my GPS before I drive and will not touch my phone until I reach my destination. This helps me to remain focused on driving and make more safety-enhanced decisions.
Beyond the personal driving improvements, I would like to be able to influence those around me positively as well. I will also be sharing things I have learnt regarding safe driving with my friends and family. The simplest reminders, such as wearing seat belts and obeying speed limits, do make a big difference. By having discussions about safe driving practices, I hope that people of my age develop some sort of safety culture.

Conclusion
In the end, I really do think that driver education will go a long way in helping to reduce the number of deaths by car accidents. For one thing, it's important to know just how grave safe driving is, but above all, it's time to take action in order to improve our habits. Educating myself about responsible driving and being able to encourage others to do so, I feel that I'm doing something useful regarding the safety of everyone who drives on the road. We have to do our part to help minimize the traffic fatalities and make our roads a safer place for all. Together, we can make our roads friendlier and safe for all users, ensuring that travellers can journey with no fear.
