When I was just a little kid, I experienced a feeling I had never really thought of before or knew why I felt that way. We were at our great uncle's house when he told us that uncle Mitchel had killed a stranger on the road because he was driving drunk, and he was sent to prison for a long time. It was in the news, it was what we talked about the next couple of months, the same words over and over again killed. It rocked me to my core. I couldn’t even drive yet, (I was 7) and yet at that moment I made a promise, I will never drink and drive. He killed that person, their family is still grieving that loss, he is in prison now with the guilt of what he’s done, and none of us are the same. When we choose to make the dumb or wrong decision while driving, people are killed. Driving is a privilege not a right, and it can and should be taken away if you drive without care for others around you. This is why drivers education is so vital to the future generations of young drivers, you think it will ok just one time if you don’t wear your seat belt or just drive one time because you got drunk and don’t want to get caught, the harsh reality is that, it kills people or you, all it takes is one time to ruin your life and everyone else around you. I personally remember a time where I was in drivers education and my teacher showed us a video of a man who killed an entire amish family because he was texting and driving or the video of the man who was trying to scare his friend by driving recklessly and ended up killing the both of them in a horrible accident. Since taking drivers education I have learned how to be a proactive driver and prevent accidents from happening that are not my fault. I learned when it's safe to take a right turn on red and that in some states the same rules don’t in every state and can get me a ticket. So not only has drivers ed helped me be safe but also has saved me money from fines and tickets. Having the proper education on the rules of the road can save lives, being a proactive driver can keep you and others from wrecking, knowing what signs mean on the road can save you from flipping down a mountain or off a curvy road, knowing the effects of drunk driving can keep you from ever making the same mistake. This all however comes from learning and why you have to pass a test to drive. What we should all do is pay more attention in our drivers education courses and listen when others beg us to not do the same. Not only is drivers education a benefit to make your insurance cheaper but it is something that you will use for the rest of your life. I personally believe that drivers education should be required for all kids in high school and free classes adults can at any time not only about their state but also the general rules of the surrounding states. I believe there should be more media attention to the benefits of taking the class and the cons of not. As well as a movement to step in and protect those who are unable to make good decisions, taking their keys and getting them home safely, not being afraid to tell them no and being brave enough to do so. I personally, will check every year for updates in rules of the road in my state and other states I travel to often. I will always be vigilant and safe and never drink and drive. As well as whenever possible, when I see others who are making the wrong decision, kindly tell them the correct way and show grace when they do make mistakes. Having kindness and mercy when others make mistakes will save heart ache and even people’s lives. Oftentimes we just get so upset that we get angry and yell till cows come home. This in the end does nothing but pass anxiety and anger, instead when we show kindness and explain what they did wrong, they are more likely to learn and hold on to it then forget it in a fit of rage. So to sum it all up, driver's education saves lives, saves money, and saves time spent in anger when we could be growing and learning.
