The
Importance of Drivers Education

Although
driving is a privilege, some people take it for granted by driving
irresponsibly. I believe that drivers ed classes reduce the
number of deaths because they teach people the rules of the road.
When I took a drivers ed class at my school, I learned lots
of things including the consequences of being an irresponsible
driver. I learned that one small decision can easily save your life.

I
believe that in order to reduce the number of deaths relating to
drivers, we should keep enforcing people to wear their seatbelts
since this saves lives the majority of the time. When it comes to
driving under the influence, people mainly think of alcohol and
illegal drugs. We should start bringing up the fact that driving
while on certain medications, like pain meds, can also affect the way
you drive. My dad was sick one time and decided to drive while on
Nyquil. I didn’t know this until we were driving home. He was very
drowsy and even fell asleep for a couple of seconds at a light. I
felt really unsafe and I became anxious during the entire drive home.
I feel like we should also try to teach people why they should pull
over to the side of the road if they ever become angry or upset. We
don’t think clearly when our mind is being flooded with emotions.
Once our thoughts become blurred, we lose our focus on the road which
increases our chances of colliding with someone.


Sometimes,
my father can be an irresponsible driver due to his extreme road
rage. If something makes him upset while he drives, even if it's the
smallest of things, he’ll speed through lanes and hit the brake
harshly. It can be really scary because even though he says that he
will never crash, we’ve had some close calls.


Once I
begin to drive, I’ll try to make sure to only drive when I can
process my thoughts properly. This includes being completely sober as
well as driving with a clear mind. I’ll be a responsible driver by
making everyone in my vehicle buckle up before I even start the
engine. If they don’t comply, I’ll just have to kick them out. I
don’t want to put my life nor the lives of others at risk. Not only
will I be a responsible driver, but I’ll also try to help my
friends and family become responsible drivers as well. If I ever
notice that my friend is driving while they’re upset, I’ll ask
them to pull over so I can drive. This will hopefully lessen the risk
of us crashing. Overall, having educated drivers on the road is the
main key to reducing deaths relating to driving.
