To start, I would like to speak on something that happened to a family friend where they were riding their motorcycle and were hit by a drunk driver who had recently been out of rehab and was driving drunk after relapsing, due to the dangerous driving, it had caused him to lose his legs and has been stuck in a wheelchair ever since. Driving has become an increasingly dangerous experience, which has mainly been caused by more drivers on the road, increasing the chance of accidents and car-related fatalities. Additionally, there are also bad drivers, inexperienced drivers, reckless drivers who end up causing accidents due to their crazy driving, and drunk drivers who are impaired and should not be behind the wheel, which all leads to further accidents and outpacing the number of deaths due to wartime combat because of the American projection of strength and the wars not being fought with us at a disadvantage. First, the reason that reckless driving has become the leading cause of death is that people act crazy, especially teens, who have risen to one of the top reasons for car crashes. Furthermore, people will not abide by the conditions of the road, and this leads to people dying in mudslides, hydroplaning, and multicar accidents that lead to more people dying when compared to deaths during combat and the Vietnam War. Second, the increased number of drivers leads to a higher probability that something happens, as everyone has different cars, different levels of skill, and different levels of maintenance on their cars, which can lead to different things going wrong. For example, if someone is new to driving, they may not know everything there is to driving, so it will lead to an accident, or if someone has a car known for failure, such as the pinto will lead to higher fatalities when it comes to accidents, and different levels of maintenance can lead to the car having a blown tire, or parts falling off causing others to have to drive erratically and leading to accidents, and this can be seen when semi trucks blow a tire and it hits another car which leads to a person swerving or getting caught off guard and an accident happens. Despite this many would say that it would be hard to say how many died exactly during wartime and this is true, which is why estimates are given to be around 60,000, and this also takes into account, for example, during the Vietnam war there were incidents of people dying in combat, to traps, and due to friendly fire still gets dwarfed because of the fact that there are so many more factors acting on car fatalities in modern times than there was during the limited fighting in Vietnam during the war. Finally, drunk driving, while a minority of car crashes, is still a significant factor when it comes to the statistic of car fatalities because it can lead to people who were driving safely crash, since sometimes drunk people go into other lanes, making others lane switch, or being the cause behind an accident, and an example of this is when someone is driving normally, and they sideswipe somebody or skip a light and those who were being safe drivers get caught off guard by the erratic driver and this causes further deaths due to driving. Additionally, you can have people driving who cut off other cars, and that leads to an accident, like if someone brake checks a semi; it will cause an accident or lead them to run off the road and have the potential of further car related deaths and accidents. In conclusion, because of the increased population, there is a higher probability of a car-related fatality happening, and it also increases the chances of reckless drivers, drunk drivers, inexperienced drivers, and criminal drivers doing something they should not be doing and causing an accident that leads to a death. In addition to the higher probability of someone else causing an accident, you also have the weather conditions and the personal choices a driver takes while driving leading to fatalities during car crashes, and in the end the amount of car crashes, despite declining, has outpaced the Vietnam War and highlights the importance of why safe driving is so important to keeping safe and preventing accidents when avoidable and in your own control such as not drinking, not falling into outside factors, and keeping a calm head so that you don't do anything stupid.
