What Drivers Ed Has Done for Me
What Drivers Ed Has Done for Me

Taking an accredited Drivers Ed class in the past has helped me in my life in more ways than one; one being that it helped give me a lower rate on my car insurance. But on a serious note, although not directly, it has also helped others when I am in the driver's seat. I say that is true for me as well as others who have taken drivers ed courses. It teaches you to become more aware of your surroundings. More specifically, it teaches you to be aware of other vehicles that you share the road with, including motorcycles. Drivers ed gives you the ability to help reduce the number of deaths on the road because it teaches you how to react in a situation that could literally save lives, whether it be to turn your wheel the right direction or knowing when to accelerate or decelerate. I myself have been in a car accident that could have been prevented. Thank goodness it was not too serious and everyone involved was unharmed. I had become distracted trying to change the radio station and took my eyes off the road for a few seconds. I rear ended somebody and could not stop in time. Like I said, it was nothing too serious, but it served as an experience to be even more careful than I was taught in drivers ed. I had my two daughters in my vehicle with me, so that made the event more ingrained in my memory because I would never want my children to be injured, especially by me. Since then, thankfully I have not been on another accident (knock on wood), but since then, I have tried even harder to not become distracted when I am driving. With two small children, I try to have their snacks, toys, or whatever it is they need in an easily accessible place in case of the event that they need something while I am driving. If not, simply pull over if it is still too difficult. I think those are good habit for any parent to have, honestly, especially when it comes to making trips easier for everybody. I am also the one in my family to call them out on the unsafe habits if I see any. Granted no one, is perfect, especially me, but it is always a great idea to improve on our driving skills to make the roads safer for everybody.
