What steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving? We need to advocate for better road safety measures, like clearer signs, more streetlights, and safer crosswalks. Making our roads safer can really make a difference for drivers as well as pedestrians and parents not on their phone while driving sets a good example for younger drivers.
Making sure we have access to mental health resources can help with things like stress or anxiety that might lead to unsafe driving. Getting involved in local programs about traffic safety can help as well. If we work together and focus, we can make driving safer for everyone.
Have you ever had an experience of being in car accident or have seen your friends or family members driving irresponsibly? I’ve experienced the stress and fear of being involved in an accident with a school bus. It was a wake-up call for me about the importance of being vigilant and patient, especially in school zones and everywhere. After the incident, I realized that waiting for the road to clear before making a turn even though the bus was partially in my lane I could have wait and prevented the situation. This has caused my mom’s insurance to go up and my car still isn’t fixed.
I was in an accident with my mother. She was backing out of our driveway, and it was dark. She had asked her neighbors not to park behind her driveway. This morning, we were running late. She began to back out and ran into a parked car. This was scary because, I was so young. My mom was crying, she left her information and took me to school so I would not be late and returned home to take care of the situation. This taught me to always look at my surrounding before getting in my car and take my time pulling out whether it’s my driveway or not.
What steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road? Do your best to avoid distractions like your phone, loud music, or eating while behind the wheel. Also make sure if you have someone in the car with you, they are following the rules such as no loud talking, very little movement, hands off the wheel, radio etc. Keeping your attention focused on the road, and obey traffic laws, including speed limits, stop signs; understanding and following these rules helps keep everyone safe. When changing lanes or turning, make sure to signal your intentions. This lets other drivers know what you plan to do and can prevent accidents.
Being aware of your surroundings and the actions of other drivers is important too. Keeping a safe distance and being prepared to react can help avoid collisions. Talk to friends and family about safe driving habits. Remind them to avoid distractions and always drive sober. Practicing safe driving sets a good example, and when others see you being responsible, they’re more likely to follow in your footsteps.
If you are tired or not feeling well, it is important to recognize that you shouldn’t drive. Participating in local initiatives that promote road safety, such as volunteer work or safety workshops, can make a difference in your community. Staying informed about traffic laws and safety updates helps you make better decisions while driving and supporting friends who might be stressed or anxious can also be beneficial. I know that I have dyslexia, and this plays an important role in my decision making and it can bring on emotional challenges that can affect driving, so comprehending and listening really help me.
By taking these steps, I can improve my driving skills and contribute to a safer environment for everyone on the road!
