Driving
safely should be the top concern of anyone behind the wheel of a
motor vehicle. Today, there are numerous distractions that hinder the
driver’s ability to be cautious of their surroundings. Arriving to
one’s destination without being harmed has become more and more of
a challenge when approaching the road. It is crucial to know and
understand the basics of driving in a safe way to not only save the
life of the one driving, both those who are with them.

Providing
and receiving a drivers ed course can aid in keeping lives
safe on the road. These programs are conveniently taught in schools
or here on the internet. There is no age limit as anyone who is
willing to take this class can. Learning the laws of the road
benefits the driver in being able to remain safe. It not only teaches
the techniques of being a driver, but what to be aware of and how to
handle certain situations. By helping you become more alert and
knowledgeable of what can happen when behind the wheel, and how to
communicate with others while doing so, one can drive more safely.

To
reduce the number of deaths per year, people need to start being more
cautious and attentive when driving. Even partaking in small acts
such as putting your phone in the back seat can help one refrain from
any sort of distractions. By keeping your focus solely on the road
and not on the radio, your phone, or what others are doing in the car
can go a long way. Passengers and those who are also in the vehicle
can be of help by not creating any disturbances for the driver.
Having conversations is fine until it begins to interrupt the
attention of the one driving.

I
personally have not been in a car accident but my closest friends
have from being unsafe drivers. One of my best friends was driving
down the highway when she glanced at her phone to change the song
that was playing through her speakers. Due to this, she did not see
the person in front of her slam on their breaks and she then crashed
into the back of their vehicle. Because of this small action, she
totaled her car and struggled to pay for the damages. When removing
her eyes from the road, she not only put her life in danger but those
encompassing her. I have also witnessed some of my other peers
driving irresponsibly when they are more concerned with impressing
those in the vehicle rather than remaining a safe driver.

I
sometimes struggle with being a safe driver when I speed in order to
get to my destination more quickly. Instead, I could leave at a time
that allows me to not be in such a rush and make it there in a timely
matter. When I am upset and drive, I tend to do so in a way that can
make others upset as well. I continue to affect others when I drive
while emotional, so in order to protect my life and the lives of
others, I could be more considerate by driving later that day or not
at all.

People
need to begin prioritizing the safety of others while on the road in
order to maintain a safe environment. The moment someone is
distracted or begins to drive crazily, others' lives are in danger.
Be more cautious and aware of your surroundings and how you can make
an impact in either a positive or negative way.
