Education
Saves Lives
In
today’s society, the average person is able to drive a vehicle with
very little knowledge of the safety rules that come with this
privilege. Driving courses are too easy and a license is attainable
by virtually anyone. A staggering number of individuals are killed in
car crashes every year. This is due to the lack of education from
nearly all drivers within a community. Changes need to be made within
the process of getting a driver's license.
Driver
education provides every attendant with knowledge that has the
ability to save lives. You learn the rules of the road, how to drive,
and the essential rights and wrongs on the roads. If you were to get
a driver's license without the drivers ed experience, you are
immediately ignorant when driving because you were never required to
learn as much as someone who took a class.
In
order to solve this issue and make the streets and roads a safer
place for everyone we need to establish a more rigorous test that
will assure that will prove you have the knowledge necessary to be
out on the roads. Not only should it be harder, but it should have to
be completed multiple times every set number of years. In addition,
drivers ed should be a requirement before allowing one to
progress onto the driving test. Everyone in a vehicle would be safer
and more responsible because they will have learned essential
information about driving.
When
I was a freshman in high school, my friend and I were driving on a
muddy road. One moment we were having a great time, but it was ruined
when our rear wheel drive pickup lost traction on a muddy spot and we
slid into the ditch. In the blink of an eye the truck was on its side
with us hanging from our seatbelts. If a few ignorant and
irresponsible teens like us were more educated on driving, this could
have been prevented.
There
is an abundance of preventative steps that can and should be taken
when driving. Examples can include:

Wearing
a seatbelt at all times

Be
aware of who and what is around you at all times

Making
it known to others what your intentions are by using blinkers, hand
signals, etc.

Provide
information to other drivers that they may not know

Use
headlights when necessary

Stop
for three seconds at all stop signs

Investigate
intersections and others that are approaching before you get to them
Although
some drivers are accustomed to the rules and laws on the road, the
amount that know little to nothing will always outweigh them as long
as the driving requirements remain the same. Millions of people have
died from car crashes and accidents because of an ignorant or
uneducated driver. In order to save lives and prevent further deaths,
steps need to be taken to require people to learn and get the skills
needed to be on the road before a license is issued. Drivers ed
programs are important in their ability to saving the lives of all
drivers.
