Importance of Drivers ed

Driving
a car is the equivalent of wielding a deadly weapon. If handled
properly, cars can be used for good, providing a safe, quick method
of transportation. However, if handled improperly, the capability for
physical injury and death skyrockets. I, personally, was blessed to
have taken a drivers ed course. In the course, I saw some
horrific videos and heard heartbreaking stories portraying what
happens when people mishandle cars. However, we can learn from
mistakes, so along with being shown and taught what not
to do, we were taught how to properly
handle a car. After a series of four classroom lessons, I had four
“in-car” lessons with an instructor. Everyone ought to be
required take a drivers ed course because it is a
“wake-up-call” to the gigantic responsibility of handling a car.
If everyone took a good drivers ed course given by trained
professionals, I believe that the number of driving-related deaths
would dramatically drop.
I
have never been in a car wreck, but my aunt has. It was the fault of
a young man, who hit my aunt’s car, causing it to roll over and
over, until it finally came to rest upside down. My aunt survived,
thank God, but due to the wreck she now cannot work. The
irresponsible handling of a car by just one young man has impacted my
aunt’s life, probably forever. I wonder: if he had taken a driver’s
education course, would the wreck have happened? I doubt it.


To be a better and safer driver,
I will do my best to continue learning and improving as I drive. If
my parents have valid suggestions or critiques on my driving, I will
do my best to heed their advice. If I am riding with someone, I will
do my best to help them keep their eyes on the road by not
distracting them myself and by reminding them not to become
distracted by their phones. If I see a bad driving habit, I will
tactfully suggest that they notice and change that habit. If everyone
helped out other drivers, I think the roads would become safer
places.
