1. Why does driver’s education still matter if I already know the basics?
It is easy to view driver’s education as a boring hurdle meant only for fifteen-year-olds trying to get a permit. In reality, formal training and defensive driving education drastically lower your chances of getting a ticket or getting into a major wreck. While experience helps, an educated driver understands the complex right-of-way laws and physics of a vehicle that a casual driver completely overlooks.
To maximize your driving knowledge, take these steps:
Take a defensive driving course: Many insurance companies offer major premium discounts to high school and college

students who complete an online defensive driving class.
Practice in extreme conditions: Don't avoid driving in the snow, heavy rain, or thick fog; purposefully practice in these conditions with an experienced driver to build muscle memory.
Scan the horizon: Train your eyes to look 10 to 15 seconds down the road, rather than just staring at the bumper of the car immediately in front of you.
2. Is checking a quick notification or map really that dangerous?
Distracted driving is the number one cause of accidents for students. When you look down at a phone for just five seconds while cruising at 55 miles per hour, your car travels the length of an entire football field while you are essentially blindfolded. Whether you are checking a group

chat, adjusting a navigation map on your way to a new college campus, or picking a song, taking your eyes off the road completely ruins your reaction time.
To eliminate dangerous multitasking, use these steps:
Lock your phone down: Turn on your phone's automatic "Do Not Disturb While Driving" mode so you are not tempted by buzzing screens.
Pre-program your dashboard: Input your GPS destination, select your playlist, and finish eating your food before you ever shift the car out of park.
Manage your passengers: If your friends are acting too chaotic in the backseat or distracting you from a difficult merge, tell them directly to chill out so you can focus.
3. How do speeding and aggressive driving

change the outcome of a commute?
When you are running late for an 8:00 AMlecture or a high school exam, the instinct is to slam on the gas and tailgate slower traffic. However, speeding exponentially increases the physical force of a crash, turning a simple fender-bender into a devastating, life-altering accident. It also cuts down the time you have to react when a car ahead suddenly slams on its brakes.
To keep your speed and stress under control, practice these steps:
Count out three seconds: Pick a landmark on the road. Once the car ahead passes it, count to three. If you pass that same landmark before you finish counting, you are tailgating.
Budget a time cushion: Always leave for school, campus, or work 10 to 15 minutes earlier than necessary to entirely remove the

psychological pressure to speed.
Ignore bad road etiquette: If another driver cuts you off or behaves aggressively, take a deep breath and let them pass instead of tapping your brakes or retaliating.
4. What does basic vehicle maintenance have to do with keeping me safe?
Being a safe driver means realizing that your life depends heavily on the condition of the machine you are operating. For high schoolers driving older cars or college students driving long distances back home for the weekend, skipping maintenance is incredibly hazardous. No amount of driving skill can save you if your brakes give out or a tire blows out at high speed.
To ensure your vehicle is always safe and roadworthy, follow these steps:
Perform the penny test: Place a penny upside down into your tire tread. If you can

see the top of Abraham Lincoln’s head, your tires are dangerously bald and need immediate replacement.Listen for warning signs: Schedule an inspection immediately if your brakes start squeaking, grinding, or feeling incredibly soft when you press down.Verify your night vision: Once a month, turn on your headlights, high beams, and hazard lights, then walk around the car to ensure no bulbs are burned out.

Thank you for your time while reading my essay. We’re writing this essay. It brought me back to all of the times I was driving along the road and saw countless wrecks, reckless, drivers, and people who probably faked getting their license. We really need to address the vital importance of drivers in the United States of America , bad drivers are putting innocent lives at risk every single day. We must follow all the steps I have listed above in order to help our country remain safe.
